Knee Surgery Death

Bloomington, IL: (Oct-17-07) The family of Drew Cousins, a former Illinois State University football player, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Lawrence Li's business, Orthopedic & Sports Medicine Center in Normal, and OSF Healthcare System, after the 22-year-old player died after knee surgery. The suit claimed that Cousins died as a result of negligent post-surgical treatment by Li and three nurses. OSF Healthcare System was named in the suit because it reportedly employed two of the nurses in its home care center. Reports show that Cousins suffered complications after knee surgery on Oct. 28, 2003. He was found unresponsive at his home in Bloomington and died at the hospital the following day. As part of a settlement reached, Cousins family received a $1.7 million payout, resolving the suit. [PANTAGRAPH: FATAL KNEE SURGERY]
