Amvac Chemical Corp.

Los Angeles, CA: (Apr-16-07) Thirteen Nicaraguan field workers filed suit against Amvac Chemical Corp., a Southern California chemical company, alleging that one of the pesticides the firm used caused them to become sterile. The suit also mentioned Dow Chemical Co. and Dole Fruit Co. as defendants. In a settlement reached, Amvac agreed to pay $300,000 to the plaintiffs, claiming that the settlement is a compromise of disputed claims and is not an admission of liability. Plaintiffs may stand to receive settlements ranging from $2,000-$60,000 depending on their claims. [INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE: PESTICIDE WORKERS]
