Norcal Waste Systems

Oakland, CA: (Apr-11-07) The city of San Jose had filed charges against Norcal Waste Systems accusing it of not meeting the state-mandated trash diversion requirements of mixing glass with trash, rather than recycling the material. Norcal did not refute the claims. In a settlement reached with the city, Norcal ended litigation in the controversial trash-hauling contract by agreeing to pay the city $129,000. The city and Norcal have a long and troubled history, so the city is poised to ink a deal with new companies, California Waste Solutions for recycling and Garden City Sanitation for trash. The change in service is set to begin July 1, 2007. [MERCURY NEWS: TRASH HAULING]
