Centier Bank

This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.

Gary, IN: (Mar-21-07) The Justice department filed a lawsuit against Merrillville-based Centier Bank, alleging the bank was guilty of racial discrimination and violations of the Fair Housing Act and Equal Credit Opportunity Act by unlawfully failing to equally market and provide products and services to predominantly black and Hispanic neighborhoods in Gary, East Chicago, and Hammond. In a settlement reached between Centier and federal authorities, Centier agreed to open new offices and expand existing operations in previously excluded areas, invest $3.5 million in a special financing program, and spend at least $875,000 for consumer financial education, outreach and promotion in previously excluded areas.
