CBS Radio Inc.

New York, NY: New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer investigated the radio station regarding gifts or payola paid by record companies for air play. Radio station employees received gifts such as trips and electronic equipment in exchange for playing songs and artists to increase sales. Selling air time to the highest bidder violates New York State and federal laws and robs consumers of their right to know why the songs they hear on the radio are being broadcast. CBS Radio has agreed to pay $2 million. (Oct-19-06) [INTERNATIONAL HERALD TRIBUNE: CBS PAYOLA]
