City of Houston, TX

Houston - In 2000, Sam Levingston was fired from the Bureau of Animal Regulation and Care (BARC) after working there for eight years. Levingston claims he was fired in retaliation for complaining of animal abuse at the kennel. BARC notes he was fired for veterinary malpractice after allowing a dog and her puppies to die. Levingston filed a wrongful termination lawsuit against the city. A jury awarded him a $1.2 million settlement; the city of Houston has agreed to pay $875,000 to the veterinarian.
