Hauppauge - Scott Brumber was paralyzed in an all-terrain vehicle accident while on duty. The former Suffolk County police officer struck a metal stake and flipped over while driving on a narrow beach path on Fire Island. He suffered spinal injuries in the accident and must use a wheelchair. Brumber, who has a wife and three children, was awarded a $14.5 million settlement by the state of New York.
