Highmark Inc.

A class action lawsuit, which affected 300 ambulance companies in 29 Western Pennsylvania counties, alleged that from 1999 through March 31, 2002 Highmark Inc. determined that non-contract ambulance companies should be reimbursed for transporting enrollees in Highmark's SecurityBlue program at the Medicare-approved rate and not for their full charges. Highmark Inc. has agreed to settle the lawsuit for $10 million. The health care insurer admits no wrongdoing regarding its reimbursements. (Jun-28-06) [PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW]
