General Electric

A class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of consumers against the appliance company alleging defective refrigerators leaked water and formed metal shavings in ice makers. An NBC investigation found rust and a black substance embedded in ice cubes, as well as sharp plastic pieces broken away from ice makers. The units were made in Bloomington, Indiana in 2001 and 2002. They include 20, 22, and 25 cubic foot models and nearly 300 model numbers. General Electric has agreed to replace defective refrigerators across the nation that needed more than three repairs to fix moisture related problems. "GE will send direct notices by mail to all owners of these units that are in their database. They will also put out advertisements nationwide." (Dec-13-05) [NBC 2 NEWS]
