CSX Corp.

The freight railroad company was charged with unsafe maintenance and malfunctioning equipment of railroad crossings and has agreed to pay the state of New York a $1.5 million voluntary settlement. CSX allegedly failed to make quick repairs to malfunctioning safety equipment as required by law; they were negligent in alerting local police about malfunctions, and they failed to maintain appropriate tracking status records. $500,000 will be used to reimburse local police for protecting malfunctioning railroad crossings and $1 million was paid to stop further investigations.
