Elaine Nancy Maklan received a $1.9 million court settlement with the New York City Council. Maklan filed a suit in December 2000 after suffering severe brain injuries by falling on a decaying pedestrian walkway over Central Park Avenue. Residents in the area had been pressing the city to fix the walkway for long time. (Dec-23-04)
