Washington, DC: Miravalle Foods Inc, is recalling 37,318 lbs. of "Miravalle Chile California & Miravalle Chile Nuevo Mexico" Brand Peppers" distributed between March 15th and May 6th 2010 to some customers in CA, CO, UT, NC, NE, ID, OR and NV because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.

Child Dies of Heparin Overdose, Investigation LaunchedOmaha, NE: A two-year-old toddler died Wednesday after she was given too much heparin at a Nebraska hospital. Almariah Duque, who was in the hospital for multiple organ transplants and also recovering from gastrochisis, died on the afternoon of March 31 at the Nebraska Medical Center. She had been declared clinically dead that morning.
