Smith County, MS: April 11 will mark the one-year anniversary of the drilling mud trial Thomas C. Brown Jr. v. Phillips 66 Company, et al. If the names don't spark recognition, the eventual amount of the jury award will: $322 million for plaintiff Brown, who alleged a diagnosis of asbestosis was triggered from his work as a mud engineer.

Jackson, MS: A jury recently awarded $322 million in asbestos compensation to a Mississippi man who sued Chevron Phillips Chemical and Union Carbide Corp. after he allegedly inhaled asbestos fibers while he mixed drilling mud.

Jackson, MI: A school bus accident Friday morning on a highway in rural Mississippi has left a 10-year old girl dead and 10 others injured. Jon Kalahar, from the Mississippi Department of Public Safety confirmed that the young girl died about 7:20 am Friday.

Calhoun County, MS: At least three people have been killed and 10 injured in a school bus accident in Mississippi Tuesday afternoon. The bus, from Choctaw County, was struck by an 18-wheel tractor trailer at the intersection of Highway 8 and Highway 9 in Calhoun County at approximately 2:30 p.m. local time, Jon Kalahar, a spokesman for the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said.

Atlanta, GA: In what will hopefully not turn into an unhappy Christmas for pet owners, a major distributor of pet food has announced a recall of select pet food packages from retail stores in 19 states. The Kroger Co. released details of a recall late Saturday involving certain packages of Pet Pride Cat Food, Pet Pride Kitten Food, Old Yeller Chunk Dog Food, Kroger Value Cat Food and Kroger Value Chunk Food.
