By Brenda Craig.Atlanta, GA: Business litigation lawyer Jeffrey Horst had his work cut out for him when Georgia socialite Vicki Stewart walked into his office with a bone to pick. A book written by a friend of hers had recently rocketed onto the New York Times bestseller list and Stewart wanted to sue the author and the publisher for libel. "It was the first time I had ever taken anything like this on," says Jeffrey Horst. "Initially I thought, 'well, this is going to be a tough case.' We knew they had deep pockets on the other side and St. Martin's Press was going to go to matt over this."

Class Action Attorney Wants to Know "What's in Their Wallets" November 13, 2009. By Brenda Craig.Atlanta, GA: Capitol One, marketed as the "hassle free credit card," is being sued for consumer fraud by some disgruntled customers who are fed up with the company asking them for more and more of "what's in their wallets." Over the last 10 months, the company has tripled borrowing costs for cardholders. Attorney Adam Webb, who represents some of those very annoyed customers in a consumer class action lawsuit, says Capitol One clearly abused its discretionary powers.

Pharmaceutical Malpractice A Growing Problem says Attorney June 30, 2009. By Brenda Craig.Cumming, GA: Attorney Donald Singleton was recently contacted by a woman who believes she was the victim of pharmaceutical malpractice. The potent prescription painkillers she got from her pharmacist for her chronic pain condition turned out to be a heavy dose of anti-inflammatory steroid. "After a few days, the pain she could usually control with her prescription was still there, she was feeling sick and realized the pills in the bottle were the wrong ones," says Singleton, who is currently investigating the "mis-prescription" as a potential case of pharmaceutical malpractice.

Texas Lawyer Inspects Peanut Corporation of America Plants

Blakely, GA: Yesterday attorney Ron Simon investigated one plant at the Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) in Texas and the second PCA plant in Georgia today. The evidence that the PCA's products were contaminated is overwhelming. And he has photos from both plants—incriminating evidence indeed. (The photo on the left shows a dead rat and several roaches.)
