Salt Lake City, UT: The shoulder pain pump continues to be a scourge for many plaintiffs who willingly accepted a doctor's recommendation to feed pain medication directly to the shoulder joint without understanding the potential for serious ramifications. Shoulder pain pump manufacturers were never granted FDA approval to use the device directly to the shoulder joint (just the surrounding soft tissue), and doctors claim pain pump manufacturer representatives failed to apprise them of the risk.

Durham, NC: Critics of the mining process for natural gas known as "fracking" (fracturing) received a boost with the publication of a landmark study that suggests a definitive link between the process of fracking and contamination found in area groundwater. Even with the study, the debate over hydraulic fracturing water contamination is expected to continue unabated for quite some time.

Del Monte Recalls Cantaloupes Because Of Possible Salmonella Panama Contamination

Washington, DC: Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A., Inc. (“Del Monte Fresh”) of Coral Gables, Florida is recalling 4,992 cartons of cantaloupes, each containing 4 plastic mesh sleeves with 3 cantaloupes per sleeve, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella Panama, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella Panama often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella Panama can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

Most attention is focused on the winners, not the nominees. However, individuals whose water taps can instantly be turned into a blowtorch by holding a lit match under running tap water are thankful for any public awareness to their plight, however minor.

64,000 lbs of Chicken and Pork Products Recalled

Washington, DC:Taylor Farms Pacific, a Tracy, Calif., establishment, has recalled approximately 64,000 pounds of chicken and pork products because the broccoli used in these products may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Mauri Gorgonzola Cheese Recalled

November 12, 2010. By Lucy Campbell.
Washington, DC: The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention join DPI Specialty Foods in warning consumers not to eat Mauri Gorgonzola cheese with sell-by dates of 01/13/11 and 01/14/11. A sample of this cheese tested positive for E. coli O157:H7 in a Colorado state laboratory. Colorado officials discovered the positive sample during the investigation into the recent E. coli O157:H7 outbreak in Southwestern states.
