Public Employees Retirement System Board

A class action lawsuit was filed on behalf of more than 20,000 Oregon public employees, arguing a recent decision by the Public Employees Retirement System Board (PERS) to recoup "overpayments" from their pension accounts, by making deductions from the retirees in their monthly checks.

PERS wants to recover money from those who left public service between April 1, 2000 and March 31, 2004 after a court ruling that the system overpaid into worker pension accounts from the pension fund's 1999 investment earnings. The retirees' contest that they were not overpayments and that they should not have to pay any monies back.
