Ontario Trusteed Pension Plan

2,300 current and former employees of 26 Ontario farm co-operatives have filed a class action lawsuit against the Ontario Trusteed Pension Plan. The suit alleges that the defendants, including the pension plan board of trustees, its former investment manager and consultant, and the custodian of the pension fund, were negligent in the fiduciary duties in the management of the pension plan. The board of trustees are being questioned about their supervision of the investment manager, who used derivative investment contracts to avoid substantial losses on equity investments.

According to some of the plaintiffs, some members who have retired are being asked to repay some of the money they have been paid, and certain retirees are having their pensions reduced.
