Lipitor Side Effects Canada

Lipitor is in a class of drugs called statins, which are used to treat cholesterol problems by lowering blood levels of low-density lipoprotein. Studies, including a study conducted in Canada, suggest an increased risk of diabetes in people who take statins. Furthermore, that risk might be even more greatly increased in the high potency statins.

A Canadian study, published in BMJ (5/23/13) found that higher potency statins such as atorvastatin (Lipitor) and simvastatin (Zocor) might be linked to an increased risk of new onset diabetes, when compared to other statins.

Lipitor Diabetes Lawsuit Canada

lipitorprescbottlethumb.jpgLipitor lawsuits have been filed in the US, alleging patients were harmed by the use of Lipitor. In February 2014, 56 lawsuits alleging Lipitor was linked to type II diabetes were consolidated in South Carolina federal court, according to Law360. The lawsuits allege patients were not properly warned about the risk of developing diabetes while taking Lipitor even though, plaintiffs argue, Pfizer knew or should have known about a link between Lipitor and type II diabetes in 1996. The plaintiffs say had they known about the risks associated with Lipitor, they would not have taken it.

Attorneys are investigating possible Lipitor lawsuits in Canada because of the possibility that Canadian patients were exposed to the same risk of developing diabetes while taking Lipitor.

My brother was on Lipitor 26 yrs ago, for many years. After what they thought was a stroke, then put on Crestor. In 2010 He had a heart attack, the doctor said that he should of had a double bypass, but due to time constraints he was left having two Stints & Angioplasty in his heart. While in hospital he was diagnosed with Diabtes 2. He has suffered from unbearable muscle and joint pain on a daily bases, along with blackouts & siezers. He's even had eye problems due to his Diabetes where he was told he had bloodclots that caused his eye to turned in by 22 diopside. All of these health issues have taken their toll on his life, as you can see. It's hard to fight depression when having so many health issues to deal with.
But I am very angry, that a company producing such a lethal Drug, causing him not be able to live a life of joy & good health because of a company's irresponablity.
He's the one who has to live a life of HELL.

My father was on Lipitor for many years but eventually had to go off of it due to muscle pain. He was switched to Crestor and has been taking that for about 5 years now and started out experiencing periods of amnesia that would last for a few hours and then pass (he would go somewhere and forget how to get home etc.). Now he is experiencing memory loss and confusion most days but his doctor won't take him off the statin drug because they are convinced that he will drop dead tomorrow if he doesn't take it. The memory loss is either due to taking the Lipitor or Cresor, or both for many years. Has anyone had experience with this type of thing reversing after a person goes off the statin drug or has the damage already been done?

I started taking Lipitor probably 15 years ago. I now have type 2 diabetes and neuropathy, which are two side effects of the Lipitor, that I now find out. No one in my family has had diabetes, either type 1 or type 2.

Would the lawsuit also cover Lipidil EZ? I was taking that and now I have type I I diabetes and have to take medication for it.

After taking Lipitor for a few years I developed Type 2 diabetes. To my knowledge I did not inherit "the diabetic gene" as nobody else in my family is either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetic

I am a type 2 diabetic but was prescribed Lipitor prior to this for another condition...I can verify all this through medical claims, and am upset this could be allowed to happen.

I believe I have contracted diabetes because of taking the drug Lipitor. I was first diagnosed a diabetic a few years back. I have recently been told the diabetes is worse, and I am now taking medication for it. I suffer from mental anguish, as I have many other health issues, and this just makes everything worse.

I am now diabetic. I have been taking Lipitor since 1992 and have never been warned that Lipitor could cause diabetes. I have no family history of diabetes.
