Lift Equipment Failure causes Death

An elderly nursing home patient was being moved in a "lift" when he fell from the motorized vehicle and was taken to hospital, where he died four hours later.

Lifts are routinely used in nursing homes to transfer patients from beds to wheelchairs or baths. An investigation was not started until questions were being asked of the Coronor's Office. Apparently the Coronor had not been notified of the suspicious nature of Wally Baker's death.

Leisureworld Caregiving Centre has since removed all it's lifts from 26 nursing homes in Ontario.
