McCown, De Leeuw & Co.

Employees who were wrongfully terminated from Brown Schools in a mass layoff have filed a class action lawsuit against the company. On March 25 the Brown School Board of Directors announced the schools had filed for bankruptcy and were closing immediately. 700 employees across five states abruptly lost their jobs at the educational facilities. If there more than 100 full time employees working for a company, the federal statute requires employers to give written notice 60 days before a mass layoff or company closure. Plaintiffs are seeking back wages and benefits for the 60-day period.
