Ambien Side Effects

Ambien is a pharmaceutical prescribed to help patients with insomnia and is currently one of the most prescribed sleep aids in the US. However, there is recent concern over possible addictive Ambien side effects and sleep-related eating, walking, cooking and driving. Alleged side effects range from Ambien sleepwalking episodes to hallucinations, violent outbursts and driving while asleep. There are in increasing number or reports of people have woken up to find themselves in jail, driving cars while in a hypnotic state and binge eating.

Ambien Sleeping Pill

Ambien is a powerful sleeping aid drug. Scientific research confirms that Ambien is a powerful hypnotic that can induce sleepwalking and sleep-eating. Another possible side effect is that users of this drug have no memory of their actions after taking the drug.

Ambien is designed for short term treatment of insomnia unless otherwise advised by a doctor. Users of Ambien have complained of dependency on the drug to sleep with prolonged use. Possible unintentional overdose has caused death.

Ambien In the News

Federal health officials warned that all prescription sleeping pills may sometimes cause sleep-driving. People taking such drugs as Ambien have reported getting up in the middle of the night and going for a drive, with no recollection of doing so. The Food and Drug Administration has ordered 13 drug markers to to include warnings on their labels about rare but serious side effects including, sleep driving and life-threatening allergic reactions. (Mar-14-07) [CNN NEWS]

In November 2012, a study conducted by researchers at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN found that hospitalized patients who were administered Ambien as a sleep aid had a greater risk of falling in the hospital than those patients who were not given the drug. The study was published in The Journal of Hospital Medicine (11/19/12). As a result of the study, the Mayo Clinic decided to phase out in-patient use of Ambien and seek other sleep aid alternatives. The study, while finding an association between Ambien use and falls, did not establish a cause and effect relationship between the two.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved label changes specifying new dosing recommendations for zolpidem products (Ambien, Ambien CR, and Edluar), which are widely prescribed sleep medications. Unfortunately, I had an 18 YEAR relationship with Ambien/Zolpidem.
I realized very early on that I was becoming addicted but was repeatedly assured that all of the horrible side effects would go away with time. They do not! The side effects actually just multiply rapidly and the constant solution seemed to be another drug to make them bearable. I can personally attest to most all of the experiences that others have had and many more on a much deeper level. I cannot express how much this wolf of a drug negatively affects nearly every aspect of your life dressed as a cute little sheep to count over a fence. That kind of sleep is NOT worth it! My heart goes out to EVERYONE who fell victim to this stuff.

At some point later, I get up no shoes pajama shorts and a t-shirt I left my cell phone, my cigarettes and got my keys and drove less that two miles away a crashed into another vehicle. I woke up the er with absolutely no memory of ever getting out of my bed...
Scariest feeling in the world.

I was prescribed Ambien in 2002 for complaints of anxiety from stress. I was an RN for 9 years and over the years had strange side effects looking back at my life. That drug nearly took my life and certainly made it a living Hell. I have lost everything including my family, my career and my freedom. I am now in a homeless shelter trying to get disability for the wrecked life I am still fighting for.

I was given the generic Ambien, just 3 days ago I jumped in my truck and sleep drove. Hit a sign went off the road into bushes and woke up in jail 4 hours later. I must have taken more pills during the night and got up and drank alcohol as I went to bed at 8:30 at night as I had to be up at 5 am for work. I got in my truck around 7:30 am....my boss has fired me, my truck has about $5000 worth of damage and I was charged with a DUI, property damage and driving under the influence of drugs. I am lost and have hit rock bottom. This drug needs to be taken off the market.

I was prescribed ambien while in the military. I was waiting to be medevac back to the states and so exhausted from lack of sleep I was told if I didn’t voluntarily take the meds they would admit me, put an iv in my arm and put me under. In my room, alone, I had the worst nightmare I could ever imagine. It still haunts me today. I still don’t sleep through the night.

I was working at Emory university hospital In 2006 when I began seeing a rheumatologist for chronic joint and knee pain. I was prescribed several medications one being Ambien along with Percocet 10mg. After being on Ambien for several months my doctor I creased my dosage. I took Ambien o e afternoon while I was sick trying to sleep. The next thing I knew I woke up in the hospital my father rubbing ice on my lips. I was very disoriented. I couldn't u understand what was going on how I got there what happens. It wasn't until later that I learned that I had gotten up in my sleep walked to my car went to blockbusters rented five movies left. It was an employee of the store called the police thinking I was intoxicated. When the police arrived I almost side swiped them leaving. I was told I was driving in and out of five lanes at a speed of up to 75 mph. I ran through a major intersection without tapping my brakes hit 3 vehicles than a cemented pole. When the police arrived me I was making a be in be in noise like a car engine and looked at him and said hi who are you. I crushed my tibia had to have extended hardware in my leg spent 10 months in wheelchair 3 to 4 months on crutches. Had. Counties hours of physical therapy rehab. I had to leg to walk all over
I still have a disability. I can or straighten my leg completely. I suffer with the pain evry day. I can't stand for long periods nor can I sit for long periods with out it locking up and causing me such pain. I guess I'm greatfull I don't remember the actual accident. However I do remember every second after I woke up in hospital. It was the works pain I'd ever felt not to mention the stress Nd anxiety. I have a daughter who was 2 1/2 years old at the time. Im a single mother so it was most difficult to care for her and go through this.

My mother was given this awful medication when I was a junior in high school (2000). For 14 years I watched this drug ruin my mother. My best friend. It started off with the silliness at night, getting up and dancing at night, eating whole cakes, eating in bed, falling asleep on the kit hen floor...and she wouldn't remember any of it. Then it became clear she was addicted. We continued to watch my mother spiral down. She started asking people for money so she could go to the doctor or buy her perscriptions almost daily. She ended up doctor hopping. Pharmacy hopping. She even tried to call in her own perscription for ambian. Then tried to pick it up. She was arrested. My mother had NEVER been in trouble with the law ever! She lost her job. She started stealing. Because of this my parents lost their home they built. She ended up in drug court. Best thing ever....so we thought. She completed the year clean. She looked so good, was doing good. Then bam after she got out. She was right back to the ambien. I would take her to the hospital because she would take 30-40 of these things a day! I begged and begged for the psychiatric hospital take her. They could see she had an issue, but they wouldn't because of her insurance. We were sent home. Then the day came. I hadn't heard from her in a while and I stopped by to check on her. My little boys went to the door with me to go see Grammy. The door was locked, I sent the boys back to the car with my friend. I unlocked the door to find my mother's blue lifeless body on the floor. What was beside her? Ambien! They were all over the floor. Ambien killed my mother! They took her life at the young age of 50!!!! My kids don't have their Grammy to watch them grow up. It needs to be taken out of pharmacies. They should be sued for the deaths they have caused!

I have suffered from chronic pain due to an injury I received at work back in 1997.As the results of not sleeping, I was given Zolpidam for insomnia for20 years. I have had 3 falls occur in the middle of the night that broke my teeth and I have had dentures to replace my upper and bottom teeth due to 2 of these night falls. The doctor that wrote these scripts is no longer in practice. 6 months ago in Sept 2017 I was rushed to the hospital ER to find that I had a stroke, my ER neuroligist after finding out the medicines I was taking, immediately took me off of ambien reporting that it may have influenced my body to produce 2 strokes, after 6 months of relearning how to talk, walk and use my hands I still have bottom teeth that where broken from my fall and have spent many months of time and money going through rehabilitation and PT. and even tough I still have pain and insomnia I have not taken any additional sleep meds for my lack of sleep. This is a medicine that was not suppose to be taken for a long term. My addition for 20 years may have triggered many short term memory loss and influenced 2 brain strokes. This has never been a side effect of taken this for 20 years.

I have always had a sleep disorder but it was about 8 years ago I was given Ambien. I was on it a straight year and it worked- I had no side effects when I was taking them. Once I stopped, due to doctors decision, I started sleepwalking. I sleep-eat and it has gotten to the point where I wake up everyday junk food in my bed, my hair, all over. I vomit every morning. I have drank lotion. My family tries to catch me but I can eat an entire cake. (carrot cake I don't like!)
I have seen many doctors since then, even an eating disorder specialist and none of them can help me. I am now technically obese, despite diets, despite exercise. I am heading for diabetes if this continues. I feel helpless.

Prescribed ambien for number of years and side effects were awful. Memory loss, driving, shopping, eating, cooking, having conversations without any recollection of the next day. Would not give this med to my worst enemy. Lucky I did not have car accidents or severe physical trauma. I believe this medication should be taken off the market immediately and is a severe danger to our society as s whole.

I have been taking ambien 10mg for about a year and recently weaned myself down to 5mg per night. I have trouble sleeping because of severe chronic pain x 30 years. I have seen so many doctors and finally had SI joint fusion 10 months ago (May 2016). I'm trying to wean myself off the ambien since I do feel like it's causing my back pain to be a lot worse.

I also had a very unusual experience a week ago where I got up out of bed at 7am and was still tired so laid back down for about an hour. I got up without incident and went about my day. At about 7pm I went to lay in bed to watch tv and discovered that the one side of the bed was soaked. WTH?! I was sure that snow must have melted and leaked through the ceiling. Nothing. There was no other explanation for this other than I must have lost complete control of my bladder while sleeping, then got up and never had a clue that anything was wrong. This has really scared me because I now see that I had something happen that I have absolutely no recollection of. This REALLY worries me. I'm 59 years old and have never, EVER had an issue with incontinence. Ever.

I really hate that doctors (mine, included) are prescribing this drug without really knowing or caring about the dangers of it. I know we are all responsible for doing our own research but to hear some of these bizarre stories (including mine) - well, it's pretty unsettling. I'm hoping to be off of this drug very soon.

My husband was prescribed Ambien in 2004. At first it started with him being up all night cleaning cooking etc.. and not remembering any of it. In his mind he had a good night sleep. Then it got to the point where he was taking several throughout the night and blaming me for hiding them. It got to the point that one night he took so many I has to call the ambulance. He was taken to the hospital even though he was acting fine and the EMT's thought he was fine as well. However knowing how many he took I was afraid he would fall asleep and not wake up. At the hospital while in the waiting room I noticed security was scrambling around and they finally told me they could not find my husband. It was the middle of January -10 degrees and he did not have a coat. My fear was he would lay down somewhere and freeze to death. After about an hour of driving around looking for him we found him casually walking down the street. I took him back to the hospital and they admitted him in the physiatric unit. The next day he called me freaking out. He had no idea how he got there and did not remember ANYTHING that had happened. After that insident he was told he would be put on a nationwide list so that he could never be percribed Ambien again. Well he was and after several other events like driving my car through the garage and waking up in jail not knowing what had happened and then the worst of the worst happened. On April 6 2011 I woke to find he had hung himself with our weight machine. My husband of 25 years the father of my 2 children was dead. I will forever wonder if I would have found him sooner and saved him if he would have remembered what had happened. I will forever believe Ambien aided in the death of the love of my life. It has been almost 6 years since his death and it is just as hard now as it was then. I would not recommend Ambien to anyone !!!

I was using Ambien as prescribed, and wound up with a DUI. The drug was ingested at 9:15PM on Wednesday evening, and I was arrested the following day around 10AM. This should have been well within the window of the effect to have worn off.

It seems there was a Class Action against the makers of Ambien in 2006. Does anyone know if a new suit is being pursued?

Thanks

I was on a drug for 8 years at 3 times the dosage (30mg). I later found out from various sources that zolpidem (ambien) is a short term drug and that I never should have been prescribed for 8 years. The last year I was unintentionally overdosing. I remember taking one pill and waking up days later with an empty bottle that originally contained 90 pills. The long term effect has caused nerve damage, numbness, peripheral neuropathy and arm/leg muscle weakness. At age 66 it is distressing to realize that my remaining years will be a life of discomfort.

I had been taking ambien for about 2.5 years.
My wife became extremely concerned due to my constant sleepwalking. She went as far as to take pictures and record movies of my behavior to prove that this was happening to me.
The night of January 21st 2010 I had taken 1 ambien.
I stayed up for a bit visiting with my ex son-in-law until I became very tired.
The next thing I remember is a year later....
That night I fell down my basement stairs.
I BROKE 7 ribs, shoulder blade, crushed a vertebrae, and BLED four places on my brain creating four hematomas. The fall caused me to seizure. It resulted in death in the ambulance on the way to the hospital. A quarter of my brain is now deteriorated.
I was required to stay in rehabilitation due to the lack of memory abilities and for two weeks of that stay I was required to be restrained so not to create further injury.
I then required full time home care for over 6 months and part time for over a year.
I was forced to retire from my job of 15 years.
I am now diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and after loosing my PhD abilities and status, I now live with the reality handicap.

I was prescribed ambien for sleep troubles around 5 years ago. Started sleep walking and busted my tailbone unawares. It took me 14 months to be able to sit pain free for 5 minutes. I stopped taking it years ago but now I've had both hips replaced. Might not be related but who knows if I fell down my stairs without knowing it and damaged my body more.
Ambien is dangerous!!!!

I was an Abien user for about 4 years. I slept ate, walked and had numerous episodes of walking up in the morning with no memory of starting to clean the fish tank and killing them all because I stope half way through. Walked down the streets of Boston in rainboots and my underwear to buy candy bars (which I never normally eat).

7 years after finally getting off the drug which was a nightmare I still suffer hugely from insomnia. The long term effects of memory loss and worsened insomnia make me deeply regret multiple doctors opinion that this is a safe drug. It caused me to long term lose my syarcadian rhythm.

I can relate to those who had accidents or lost their jobs. I feel fortunate but despise the lower quality of life I still lead due to taking this drug.

I took Ambien and now I have trouble remembering things. When I took Ambien I would do thing and had no memory of doing it. My children thought I was drinking alcohol the way I was acting. I did not drink alcohol. My kids would laugh because I was doing things and when I got up the next morning they would tell me what I had done and I had n memory of it.

I too have become a unwitting victim of tis product, and the more I read the more convinced I am that Ambien is the root of all evil.
I began taking Ambien or chronic insomnia about here year ago, an it work as prescribed our until about 14 months ago, at first is was just some silly sleepwalking around my condominium building and some really creative cooking. Then once last year I woke up in an emergency room, very drunk and disorderly which made matters worse because I was then taken to jail. about six months later the same thing, only his time I went out driving, bought liqueur and was the issued a DUI. While at the time I was having some very bad personal issues and the Ambien was not even working any loner, I continued taking it. The latest instance was one month ago, I again left the house in my car, purchased liquor and was pulled over in a vey drunken state. All three incidents I had no idea what happened between the time I laid down and when I woke up in Jail.
I am very troubled by his, while the cost has ruined my savings, put my job at risk, I now have a criminal record after 2 years of spotless behavior. While I do not drink at all, I am being forced to go to alcohol counseling with people I cannot relate to in anyway.
Now that I realized enough is enough, I have thrown all the Ambien away and my Dr is prescribing something else for sleep (sometimes it works). After this I am convinced it was the Ambien,
These people should be sued until they take this poison off the market.

He has never taken my car while on this drug but did this time . He sleep/drove hit a parked car and a boulder if he would have gotten off of our street he and possibly others would not be with us the next morning he did not remember leaving accident or getting ticket that will soon be a DUI and loss of him being able to drive and cost us more money than we can ever come up with. I am considering starting a lawsuit against the drug company .

Not so lucky!!!! I had complained to my doctor many many times that I could NOT remember. It wasn't once in a while it was all the time within seconds. I'd go to tell someone something and it was gone just that fast. I was also stumbling all the time and having a hard time getting my words out when talking to someone. Well finally they did an MRI on me. I went this last week to find out the results and found out that I have a large portion of my brain gone....shrunk up nothing there. This portion of my brain is what controls my motor skills. I have no idea what is in my future....am I going to land up being a vegetable in the long run? They better get this medicine OFF the market!!!!!

Up with wrappers, plates and a mess in the kitchen. I have
Been known many time to shop on line around 2am in the
Morning. I have been caught sleep walking, but responsive.
I have had sex with husband with no memory. I am 50, in the past
Year I have had horrible short term memory loss. It's been
There over the years here and there, but now it's daily. I'm getting quite scared now. It's very embarrassing to be talking to a friend
And totally forget where you were in a story. Or forget watching
A movie from the night before. I'm not sure I can ever get off

After a horrific car accident my daughter could not sleep and was prescribed Ambien. She started calling me and asking where her kids were. Then she started leaving the kids at home alone at night. She was meeting random men around town and had no memory of it. Her personality changed and she started using a mispronunciation of her name that she always hated. She started smoking and drinking and multiple times her 12 year old had to grab the wheel because of erratic driving. She started staying away longer and started keeping her kids home from school. She quit cleaning her house and stopped feeding her kids. She forbid them to eat the food that was there. Her kids were taken and her youngest was so malnourished she required extensive dental work. She found a boyfriend and he claimed she was doing very extreme sexual things and was sneaking around with other men. She is now a completely different person who has lost one child and her whole extended family.

I started ambien 4 or 5 years ago. Always noticed crumbs on kitchen counterproductive in the am...I'm not a "leave crumbs" person. Lately I've been having to be told what day it is 4 times a day, I don't remember speaking to my kids on the phone daily...my husband has to call me 3x day to remind me that he's called 3x a day. I'm not allowed to drive till I see a neuro psychologist bc traffic confuses me. Now, we've bought a place close to my daughter, who is a nurse, so she can stay close to me and keep an eye out. Most days I feel like I'm in lala land not sure of what's going on around me. I'm only 49 and feel like a 6 year old trying to find words to describe the simplest things....

I am a nurse, who works nights. I have a terrible time sleeping in the day and have been taking ambien for about 8 years at different doses. I have done several bizzare actions on Ambien, from sending my ex hubby cookies, to ordering loads of things on line, can be fun sending yourself mystery gifts. But, on the serious side, I have cooked many times, usually strange combinations of foods but two worst occasions involved apparently driving to the store, buying loads of groceries and waking up to food all over the kitchen, no memory of getting in the car. The worst one, by far, was going to work, getting report on patients and passing meds, no big deal, but I was 2 hours into my shift when I "came around" and realized where I was!! Terrifying for me, what if I had injured my patients. I have tried other sleep meds and none worked as well as Ambien. Now I have signs posted in the kitchen and on my front door to make me aware of what I am doing. If I take it and stay in bed I am fine, but if my sleep is disturbed that is when the trouble seems to start. So I really am between a rock and a hard place. I need to sleep.

My case is little different. My beloved mother was prescribed Ambien for more than 20 years for every single night to help her sleep. Her primary doctor who prescribed that had stopped autopsy maybe because he didn't want her results of her death to be publicized. We are planning to file malpractice law suit against him for that and a refusal of her medical records being released to a family member. We believe the over prescription of Ambien has caused her death in accordance to our late finding for more than 20 studies indicating how Ambein causes heart attacks, heart problems, allergies, and cancer specially brain tumors. The statute of our case is running out after 12 months due to her primary physician (a pulmonologist whose expertise is only in A pulmonary disease specialist. A physician in this field who possesses specialized knowledge and skill in the diagnosis and treatment of pulmonary (lung) conditions and diseases. Pulmonology is classified as an internal medicine subspecialty.May 31, 2000). Please be told that the law says the victims of these malpractice can request 90 days final extension by simply writing letter to the physician that you are going against to simply informing him that you are going to "Sue" him for negligent.

I was a shift worker, working over nights at my local hospital. I was given ambien to help with the fact that I couldn't sleep during the day. I was on it for years with no serious problems besides the occasional snacking. Until one morning when I took it at six am and laid down in my bed. But apparently, I got out of bed, drove forward into my front porch, then backed out through my front yard and through through my white picket fence. Then proceeded onto a road way before I plowed into a stop sign. When police arrived I told them I just I wanted to die. I was charged with drunk driving and woke up in a mental hospital. I do NOT remember any of it!!!! I have never abused a substance a day in my life and was considered an upstanding citizen in my community, always volunteering my time. I lost my job because I wasn't allowed to drive and had no way back and forth. Spent over $10,000 in attorney fees and fines. Additionally, my ex husband was able to use this against me in a custody battle, taking my kids from me and I was forced to do supervised visitation for a year. This is a dangerous medication. Toe it is the equivalent of being put under anesthesia with no one watching you afterwards or driving you home.DANGEROUS!!!!!!

I think that I need to stop taking Ambien. I have no memory of anything last night after we read Dante. I know that I have cooked things and have no memory of it (using the gas fire), andI have driven and have only a vague recollection. I wonder if it has produced mood swings and other depression issues. I take only the recommended dose and often only half a dose. But, I think that the effects are cumulative. I need something for pain.

I'm bipolar 1 and can only sleep for 3 hours a day which trigger Manic episodes. I've been taking 10 mg of Ambien for almost 10 years. I cut dose in half because I wake after 3 to 4 hours and take other half then. Have only had a couple incidences when I noticed that the next day there was a bag of cookies on bedside table the next morning.
Then 3 weeks ago I saw a stir fry dish on my bed table. One bite had been taken out and the ingredients were odd but, someone has to have used a knife to cut them up and had stir fried them. In kitchen I saw a skillet full of the stir fry. I live alone. Am now trying to cut back on dose of Ambien and hide my purse and keys in a new spot every night. Also I've put up large signs by door and stove to warn myself. Am so afraid of driving car or starting fire in Ambien sleep. Had one other indecent since then.

I was struck by a drunk driver =, had surgery and constant pain that wouldn't allow me to sleep. I was prescribed Ambien and took it for a total of less than 5 days. On the last day I took the pill at 7 pm as usual and I woke up the next day. I have a professional medical job and attempted to go to work the next day at 930 am.

Passed out crashed into another car on the highway and totaled my car. I was arrested and physical as well as legal issues continue.

I hope the manufacturers of Zolpidem will burn in hell for creating a monster. Zolpidem has horrible side effects, such as severe mood swings, joint pain, causes personality changes, provides awful sleep, and creates violence. Zolpidem helped me to destroy my life, and my relationship. It does not improve the sleep, it makes it worse! I hope it gets taken off the market soon before more lives will be destroyed!

I have taken this drug off and on for many years but now it had caused me to drive my car and total it and receive a DWI. Reading all these stories I had no idea of the many cases of people in my situation. What is one to do when faced with this situation of no intentions of driving and wake up crawling out of a car that is upside down on the pavement I feel the justice system in my situation isn't even listening to my honesty in the situation of me not having no plans but to lay down and sleep and after being diagnosed as a chronic insomniac amongst other medical issues.

I shattered my right arm from shoulder to wrist, and broke my pelvis in two places. While I was very lucky to have survived and have suffered no brain damage, I now deal with daily excruciating pain, that I will live with for the rest of my life.

On October 13, 2010, I was involved in a single car accident where I ran off the road and hit a pine tree headon in my suburban. I don't know how fast I was going as I don't even remember leaving my house. I had been taking Ambien for about a week when this happened. I was pinned in my truck and had to be extracted with the jaws of life and then air lifted to LSU Trauma.

Ambien was to blame for this accident and it has cost me and my family monentarily and mentally. I would like to instigate a lawsuit against Sanofi-Aventis, the makers of Ambien in hopes of replacing the vehicle which was totaled beyond recognition and pay all my medical bills.

I also would like to campaign that Ambien be removed from the market as it is apparent the drug is deadly.

My car was totaled, I was convicted of a DUI, I had to attend court mandated programs for drunk driving. I had to pay thousands of dollars in fines. This incident never would have happened had I not taken ambien.

I am a 25 year old single mother. While my daughter was with her grandparents on a weekend night I took my dose of Ambien and went to bed. The next thing I remember is waking up in the hospital with the nurse trying to secure an IV to my arm. I supposedly got out of bed and tried to drive. The accident I was in with another vehicle was about 3 blocks away from my apartment. The people in the vehicle sustained minor injuries as well as myself.....and both vehicles were totaled. This has completely scared me to death...thoughts keep ranging to...wonder if while I was on it, I would have tried to put my child in the car, or left her in the apartment by herfself. I have received a DUI charge and I'm in the process of working through the legal system. This accident happended 11 days ago. I just want people to know how dangerous it is.

I took ambien at night, had a violent outburst but was not aware what I was doing. My daughter called 911. Police arrived, I do not remember them trying to talk to me, I was not cooperative, I ran, the police took me down, handcuffed me, pepper sprayed me after I was handcuffed and in the patrol car, I was jailed for 3 days. It has cost me $5000.00 in attorney fees to represent me. I was charged with battery against husband, resisting arrest, battery against police.

While on Ambien, one particular evening I got in my car and apparently was going to the grocery store. I woke up when I crashed my vehicle, flipping it over and I was trapped inside. This was the last episode of multiple instances when I would awake in the morning to a receipt on the counter, indicating I went out and purchased misc. items at the local gas station. My boyfriend began to hide my keys at night, but unfortunately the night of my accident, he forgot.

One instance there was irregular breathing after taking Ambien and my fiance took me to the hospital because I didn't seem normal, I have no recollection of this. The next time I was hallucinating about baby dragons at our front door and an Asian man in our bedroom dancing. I actually was quite distressed and wouldn't calm down until my fiance went and checked on the baby dragon at the door. He did and instead brought back our cat. The only thing I remember about that episode is him bringing the cat in and then I fell asleep. My fiance stayed up for most of the night making sure that I was ok.

During my hallucination I thought my family was in danger. I attacked my pregnant wife and brother thinking they were the enemy. I did not recognize them. I found myself in the hospital with 6 fractures to the face and since had to have surgery where they inserted 4 titanium plates in my face to repair it. I could have killed a loved one or killed myself in the incident. The doctors confirmed that I had a severe allergic reaction to Ambien and I blame Ambien for all of my family's and myself 's pain and suffering.

In 2005 of December my Dr. prescribed Ambein to me and I was 34 weeks pregnant. Three days after the medicine was administered to me, my healthy baby boy was pronounced dead on Christmas morning. Why was this drug given to me when I had no problems with sleeping. I only complained of my navel hurting really bad and I was experiencing preterm labor. Now I suffer from depression, lack of confidence, no sleep, and am suicidal.

In 7/2004 I was taking Ambien and CNS depressants. I took my prescribed dose one evening and shortly after I had gotten into my truck and drove to my local hospital two blocks away and drove through the front entrance of the hospital. I awoke the next morning handcuffed to a hospital bed with no memory of what had taken place.

I guess I am lucky. I started taking Ambien as prescribed by my doctor for a sleep disorder. It worked great for awhile until I started sleep walking, eating and finally turning on the outdoor sprinkler system in the middle of the night.
When I let my doctor know she did immediately prescribed something else. However the pharmacy cannot buy back my remaining doses.
I have also gained 10 pounds. Yikes!
A good nights sleep is not fattening and potentially dangerous.

I have suffered from increased weight gain for 1 year as a result of using Ambien and never being told that a side effect could be binge eating at night.
