Illegal Immigrants Falsely Imprisoned by Cook County
The County of Cook, Cook County Department of Corrections, and Cook County Sheriff are holding those being detained on ICE holds beyond the 48 hours permitted under 8 CFR 287(d). Per the Code of Federal Register, an inmate being held pursuant to a ICE Hold may only be held for up to 48 hours by the County after the inmate would otherwise be released. In Cook County, they are holding these inmates for days beyond the 48 hour limit.
If you have been detained in a county jail for more than 48 hours after posting bond because of an INS or ICE hold, you may have a lawsuit for false imprisonment.
