DirecTV Faces Class Action Lawsuit

. By
El Segundo, CADirecTV has become the latest company to face a media communications lawsuit. The company is being sued by customers who allege that it collected early termination fees without telling the customers it was doing so. Furthermore, the plaintiffs allege there was no valid contract explaining the fees.

The lawsuit, which seeks class action status, says that early termination fees were illegally collected after customers canceled their service. Plaintiffs seek a refund of fees and changes to the company's termination policy.

TV BillDirecTV has said it cannot comment on the allegations in the lawsuit.

Meanwhile, many customers are expressing their unhappiness with DirecTV's early cancellation fees and willingness to collect unauthorized payments.

"I was charged a $319.00 cancellation fee from DirecTV unfairly," Chris R. says. "I decided to bundle my services with AT&T after having DirecTV for approximately 4 years. When I called [DirecTV] to cancel I was never told of any cancellation fee, I was only told that a FedEx box would arrive in a few days for me to send back my receivers.

"A month later I was charged $319.40 for an early cancellation fee [in an unauthorized charge to his credit card]. I called DirecTv and was told that because I ordered a new DVR in February 2008, to replace my broken Tivo, I was automatically put on a 2 year contract. I informed the operator that I was never told of this contract and I was told that it is part of a verbal contract." Chris says that he later spoke to a manger, who agreed to refund the fees. However, that was not the end of Chris's story.

"About 1 month later [I] received a bill from DirecTV stating that I owed them $319.40. I call back and again explained the situation and that the manager took care of the matter. The operator stated that there were no notes on the account stating that it would be credited."

Jennifer D. says that she has also had problems with DirecTV charging her credit card despite her not selecting automatic bill payment with the company. She says that she does not dispute that she owed them payment for one month's service but shortly after learning that the company discontinued her service, she learned that DirecTV charged her card $179.17—more than she owed them. "This bill was not mailed to me, emailed to me, nor was the charge authorized," Jennifer says "I did not, nor have I ever, elected for automatic bill pay. The charge was made without my consent!"

Deborah Y. says she has also had problems with DirecTV. "I was not given any information about their 'cancellation fee' when I signed up," Deborah says. "I did not get the channels that I had requested so I canceled the service within 3 days of signing up. They have since then harassed me for $347.07 and have taken it from my checking account twice, creating overdraft fees for me both times…This experience has cost me money, stress, sleep and time. They have never had my permission to take money from my checking account."

Consumers are becoming increasingly angry with media and telecommunications companies for sneaky billing practices. Many are now filing lawsuits alleging they were never informed of early termination fees and never gave the companies permission to take money out of their accounts.

Direct TV changed the contract without customer notification. Now when you cancel you have to pay until the end of your billing cycle so they got $121.59 of my money for no services. I was also told when I started that no price increases as long as I always paid on time. This is one company on a downward spiral. Good riddens to AT&T.

They delivered a parcel to me, demanding payment. I am not the person who once lived there -- I am a different person!

I never had anything to do with DirectTV, and I want that company to LEAVE ME ALONE!

By the way, what are the postal laws regarding uninvited parcels? DirectTV might at this point be guilty of a serious crime: harrassing people where they live!

Somebody please tell Direct TV to back off or THIS MEANS WAR!

To those mindess cretins who work for DirectTV (if they know how to read, which is doubtful):

LEAVE ME ALONE, DirectTV, or you will be OFFICIALLY guilty of the crime of trespassing on private property (my yard) and also of the crime of violating a person's home! I had never subscribed or otherwise had anything to do with you or your crap, DirectTV, so stop harassing me by demanding a previous tenant respond to your mails or parcels! BACK OFF!1

I have just canceled with Directv this month for two reasons. Their monthly costs are outrageous, and tall trees on a ridge are actually blocking the signal frequently in the summer months. and I told the serviceman last summer, but he refused to do anything to help the situation. Also, about three years ago, I noticed that Directv was increasing my bill consecutively without any stated reason. After the third month, I notified them, which is not easy to do. After several minutes of discussion, I was able to negotiate a lower bill.
A year ago, they increased my bill significantly again. I notified them again, and again, was able to reduce it some. Now, this month of March, 2018 I received a new monthly bill for just under $127. Once again, I contacted them thru their chat line, and told them I wanted to cancel for same above two reasons. The billing dept employee, after identifying me, told me that my monthly was $118. I told her that my new bill said $127. And I said, please cancel. I also told both reps that their signal was being blocked in the summertime, I had informed them of this, the previous year, but they did not help the matter. They finally canceled, but not without being very unreasonable and threatening me with a cancellation fee.

Now, my late husband and I had been customers of Directv for ~22 years. That's one of my main points. I think Directv has been overcharging longtime customers to help pay for the costs of new customers. And their records probably were stating that they were charging customers less than they actually were.

I am being charge by direct TV for ordering a fight in January of 2018, UFC 191. Problem is I had not been a customer for months, had sent the equipment back months earlier and had a 0 balance due. But the most amazing thing is UFC191 took place in 2015, three years earlier. When i contested the bill they just added that event to the end of my bill review. Just stuck it on there...Now they are threatening me with collections. I have requested arbitration but I'm sure i wont get it. Anything I can do because no way will I pay this obviously fake bill

I cancelled direct tv last year around august. Some reason my bill was getting out of hand and started getting hammered by late fees after having them for 3 years. When I cancelled I told the rep I would pay at the end of the month as that's when I would have the money to pay them. 4 days later my account was over drafted on 3 bills including my mortgage. Direct tv took 278 from me with out any verbal or written authorization from me. Then all the reps I spoke with told me it was in my contract giving them the right to take my money any way they could. I asked for the contract I signed that says this. They could not provide me with one. So the only answer I got was we screwed you and too bad.

Directv is still trying to get away with this. After a 14 years with Directv, we cancelled due to a move. They immediately are trying to add a $430 cancellation fee. Their response: We don't know where in 14 years you agreed to this, but you must have agreed to it at sometime. Their "retention department" agreed that someone either probably explained it incorrectly,or didn't explain it when they should have, even though you didn't knowingly agree, we are charging you anyway.
Fight back!

I too have had direct tv with att. I also experienced multiple problems with misrepresented promises and in correcting my bills. Both my internet and TV service were overcharged repeatedly and phone calls never returned for complaints. I know this practice of overcharging is common practice and att needs to be held accountable for this, I am sure illegal practice. The most disturbing is they have done the same thing to my disabled 95 year old decorated veteran father who served 40 years for his country. They do not discriminate who they abuse with this practice. Who out there can help as I have been battling with ATT and Direct for much more than a year plus

Direct tv took $399 early termination fee out of my bank account and keeps telling me that if its not paid within 30 days this will happen if I had auto pay set up... I just checked my account... I NEVER had auto pay set up with them. I made a one time payment online and they used that. I had filed a dispute with my bank, but I see there is so many people that have issues with this. They should be sued for the wrong doings. They fail to communicate and fail to inform about what they are doing or will be doing. The lady said that there is a disclosure when you make payments that states the 30 day termination fee charge, I have found NOTHING online of this and I looked over the contract and there is NOTHING on there. She emailed it to me, and the file wont open on any device I try. She said she doesn't have any signed copy or authorized copy of me accepting this to happen as its just their policy that just so happens to not be listed anywhere.

So after breaking down and terminating my DIRECTV after a year because I couldn't afford to pay twice the amount I was told my service was going to cost, DIRECTV decided to place an unauthorized charge to my account of $800.95. Mind you, I did return my equipment and was still charged for that as well. What they are doing should be illegal if it's not, it is completely unethical business practice. I'm a single mom with 5 kids and every dollar I get is accounted for, now I can't make my mortgage payment. I absolutely despise DIRECTV.

Omg..it just happened to me ...they took out $545.00 from my checking last night..how..how in the world is this legal...I never authorized this withdraw. .i canceled 3months ago..after being a loyal costumer for over 3 years..im not in any contract ..i never received any notification they will withdraw money.i was never on autopay i always made my payments on 1 time basis over the phone..im sooo clueless how this is ok...I've been on the phone 4hrs trying to understand how they went in my account without my consents or any of my authorization. ...now all my payments went in the same times they took my money...now i have 10 overdraft fees on top...so now I owe the bank over this...no one is helping!!! The bank tell me in any given moment when u give them any payment they have your bank card info on file..but then so do all my bills that I pay over the phone will..now I have to worry about any merchant going to get money out of my personal account without my knowledge or authority. ..wow...I want to take legal action. ..how is nothing being legally done to Direct Tv..maybe thats why they joined forces with the next ripoff company AT&T ...thats why i cancelled with their rediculess fees in the first place and can't believe they also took out my local channels, At&t's bigg idea to charge extra for that service, which should be included whats the point of tv if you cannot know what goes on in your own backyatd really?..The Cable movies are practically free now and days, redbox 1$ or 2$..hulu ..netflex cheap cheap....with good Internet there is many more..so how ridiculous is it that Direct TV offers movies at triple price..$4.99 $5.99...REALLY...its not 1999 get with it DirectTV thats why all ur angry costumers are not going to rest till someone does something to stop this abuse!!!!

I paid a payment for a friend to direct Tv using my credit card and the lady verbally stated this a one time use of my card. That she had to have authorization in order to use my card again and I stated "she didn't." Yesterday I immediately contacted Direct TV because one cents was pending on my account. I spoke with a representative telling me it will be placed back and my was removed from file. Then the next day they charged my account $724.06 which was rent money I to pay my bills. isn't this illegal?

The same thing just happened to us today. They took $525 out of our account with no prior authorization. We moved back in November of 2016 and tried to get installation for DirecTV in our new town home, the lazy installation people refused to do the work so I got talked into switching to AT&T U-verse instead. We were no longer under contract with Directv and we cancelled service when we got AT&T,which is the same company by the way, so I don't see how we can have service with one part of the company and still be charged service for another part that we haven't had for months and then to take money out of our account with no permission. I'm not sure on what planet it is okay to just steal money from someone's account especially when it's not even owed. I could maybe see if we had their service and just didn't pay them but we have service with AT&T the whole time they were trying to charge us for DirecTV. I'm so disgusted with this company and I'm absolutely amazed that this has been allowed to happen to so many people. What is it going to take for someone to finally put a stop to their illegal, fraudulent thievery?

Had a Uverse account with directv/At&t had them transfer services to my new address when I bought a house they charged me 350 dollars for installation had to wait a week for the install a day after they hooked everything up nothing worked no TV phone or Internet called to complain they promised to refund the installation fees had to wait a few day to have it fixed never got a refund or credit I finally just quit paying called Cox Cable and haven't had problems now directv calls all the time for money I refuse I even sent the receivers back they haven't taken them of the final bill and magicly my wife's debit card wad charged for 292 dollars with out any concent or knowledge of it so I refused to pay and they charged her illegally I'm writing a letter to the attorney general office and possibly sue att and direct tv both

Direct TV charged my debit card 651.89 with my knowledge or authorization and I have not received my final bill! This resulted in my checking being over drafted so I have those fees as well! I called to complain they refused to refund even after speaking with management who was rude and blamed the consumer!!

We started service with them last September. Every month, our bill was wrong. Finally, they told us they would not honor the price we were quoted for our contract. In order to get the service we were promised, they wanted us to pay almost $80 more a month. We cancelled our service immediately. Today, February 28th, 2017, we noticed several hundred dollars were withdrawn out of my husband's account without consent. We tried disputing the charges, but our bank says that since DirecTV was given the card information to pay a bill several months prior, even without ever authorizing autopay, DirecTV might be able to make the charge. How do we fight this?

DIRECT TV just took $400 dollars off of my DEBIT CARD =
WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION.

Please Note:
I was NEVER- on AUTO PAYMENT!!!!! for this particular reason.

I have other bills that take priority over this one right now.
I am disputing this charge.
You do NOT have any right to use my debit card without my AUTHORIZATION or CONSENT.

I canceled my service in December with Direct TV. They stated they would send me boxes to send receivers back in, which did not arrive until first week of February. Today I wake up to see my bank account at $0.00. They had tried to withdraw $433.00 from my account, lucky for me I only had $92 and some change, although this was the only money for grocery's for the week for my family. I called Direct TV and CSR basically said there was nothing she could do and they would continue withdrawing from my account since they had my card on file. I canceled in December. Have not received any e-mail or bill since December 16th. I did not authorize this transaction. I told her to send me a copy of what I signed saying they could withdraw money without authorization. She put me on hold and said she was emailing it...still have not received. My bank suggested I cancel my debit card, which I did...but also means I have to contact every auto pay account I have and change information. Now I can't get through to any CSR with Direct TV to help with this issue. I am extremely angry and this is not right! This has to be illegal!

My card was just charged 155.00. I did not authorize this whatsoever. I was never enrolled in auto pay. We canceled our service a few months ago due to several channels being blacked out due to programming disputes. How in the world is this legal? They never sent a final bill...this was our grocery money. Please include me in the class action suit.

I had direct TV 2 years ago. And haven't used it for that long. And they are aware. But they took money from my debit card after the bill has been at the debt agency. But I had no knowledge or warning they were going to male a transaction after that long. Would have been nice to get a call or a 24 hour email apart. At least cmp does and time warner cable does. I am very surprise they are still in business and can get away with it. Shouldn't people be aware of all this and cancelation fees before signing a contract. False advertisement or fail to properly disclose proper important info about hidden terms and they get away with it. Karma

Directtv hit me with a calculation fee and other charges totaling 670.00 authorized from my bank account while I was disputing the fact that I received two bills for the same address. They had me send the receivers in due to a fraud account. Why there were 2 account numbers. They should be shut down. If there is a class action suit I want to sue them so let me know please.

Directtv also took money out of my credit card on February 1st 2017 for an account that wasn't mine. I am furious because that was my house payment they took.

Directv charged my credit card 490 dollars. This was for a cancellation fee. The only thing is I didn't approve that charge. They cannot just charge my credit card unless it was authorized by me. If I owe them money they need to send me a bill and then I will pay. They cannot just look for an old credit card that I used a year ago and then charge that card.

After reading all the complaints about Directv. I would love to know how they are still in business.
They are theives!! I had to cancel directv because I got tired of being on the phone with them every month because there were always extra charges on my account. I never had the same bill amount in the over year that I had service with them.I cancelled Auto pay within the 1st month of signing up for their service because my bill was never the same.
So last night I noticed 648 taken out by Directv I guess just because they felt like it. I would love to know how in the Heck this is legal? How are they able to keep your credit info on file when you cancel Auto pay or no longer have service with them? You turn in your equipment but they claim they never receive it. Why don't they send someone out to pick the crap up so you have proof that you sent it? I myself am too trusting when it comes to this stuff. It's companies like these that make it hard to trust anyone. Good luck to all out there dealing with this scamming and thieving company. If anyone is even considering using Directv run!!!

Im having the same issue, i bundled with Century Link and never once paid a bill directly to Direct TV. They pulled $484.32 on January 27th, 2017 and left my account in negative $242.82 for early Cancellation and the non returned equipment. They had never once contacted me, no email. no phone call, and they never had consent to pull money from my account. They claim to have sent a final bill to my physical address but we do not receive mail at a physical address, we use PO boxes where i lived. They said the letter was delivered which is absolutely not possible unless they sent it thru a package delivery company which they did not. I let them know I was willing to make a payment plan with them, but they will not refund my money and now I have no money for rent or phone bill, in fact I'm negative money. My bank is disputing the charge but I do not know where that will go. I've been on hold for 20 minutes waiting for a supervisor. Anyone have advice?

I too am going through this very same thing last night at 10:30 at night I checked my bank account and so that DirecTV had taken $277.97 out of my account and I did not authorize them I was told the exact same thing that apparently because my card was on file that I authorize them to take the money which is completely not true I've not been a member of DirecTV for almost 3 months now and they waited this long and then they took the money when I asked them about the box to send them their equipment back they said it's non-recoverable that I could take it to an electronic dump site excetra I am beyond furious with this company

I am going thru the same thing right now. I had NO IDEA my credit card would have been kept on file I did not authorize them to keep that information on file however the rep that I spoke to said if I would have read the agreement it does state that they will keep the card on file - I said yes it does but that is for auto bill pay which I am NOT enrolled in I asked them to remove my card and they will not do so. I put a different card on file in its place and they still will NOT remove my other card! Something has to be done where do I go what do I do. I'm facing 411 in charges and I don't even know why. I was with them for 13 months which was my agreement but when I wasnted to cancel the lady said I have 13 months to go! I could cry! Help what do I do! She told me that in 44 days I will be automatically billed I told her I do not authorize that charge!

Direct TV/ATT posted a unauthorized charge in the amount of $552.44 on January 13, 2017 which I found out about yesterday, January 17, 2017.

When contacted, they said that it was for a past due bill and non-return fee for the boxes. I asked them to tell me who authorized the payment, they said it was automatically created by the system. The Nerve. This transaction has caused an overdraft in my checking account. Direct TV/ATT says they will reverse the charges. So now I am in the waiting game for the transactions to post before my bank can step in.

Now get this, the outstanding bill was $264 and some change. Knowing this however, they restored the Direct TV Service with no hesitation. WTF.

I am so furious! We moved and somehow they didn't transfer our services they simply started a fresh acct!!!!! a year later I am now getting a charge for ETF taken from my acct that I never ever authorized and now it will cause all my other pending bills to bounce! The process to have it removed is a lengthy one and DTV's call volume is so high right now they aren't even taking calls. I had to leave a voicemail. Hmmm I wonder what their call back times are. Meanwhile my acct is all messed up!!!!

Became unemployed in July. Immediately called Directv to cancel service with 1 year plus left on contract. I could not afford to pay the monthly bill or early termination fee (ETF) but I wanted to atleast stop accruing costs. CSR told me I could not cancel until full amount due was paid. So, I stopped making payments and 2 months later the service was finally stopped due to unpaid balance. They called me almost every day in oct and Nov for the unpaid balance and still refused to close the account until fully paid.

In Dec it was looking pretty bad finance wise so I called Directv to see if I could atleast return the equipment in case I lose my home and have to move. The CSR said they could not send me a return box until the account was fully paid. Well, to my surprise, they did send a return box that week. I mailed by USPS the equipment the same day.

I went to pay my mortgage today and check bank balance. Not only did Diectv take the ETF but also equipment fee from my bank account using my debit card that I had used for bill payments (NOT by auto bill pay). A total of $460 without my permission. I called Directv to ask why or how. The CSR told me they have the right by contract to recover all fees by whatever payment method on file. To add insult to injury, the $460 is only for fees and equipment. According to them, I still owe for the last 3 months of service.

The prepaid USPS return box they sent me does not include a tracking service. I was unaware that the tracking service cost extra by USPS. I have a receipt from USPS but there is no way to tell if the package was delivered or not. Starting the new year a couple hundred $ overdraft and behind on all my bills.

I was "misinformed" by an at&t customer service representative of the available Direct TV services. As such I'm stuck paying for services I don't even want. I was promised a new iPhone 7 for free after trading in my iPhone 6S despite the at&t Next plan. I was also promised a 300 USD Gift card. It's been a month and I'm growing impatient.

I've contacted multiple representatives, some helpful, most not. And I'm kind of trapped, because I have no idea what to do. Had I known he was lying, I would have never signed up in the first place. I'm disgusted by this "legal" thievery. And I assume I will have to go about cancellation my own way for the best results. I've been an at&t customer since 2005, go figure 1 interaction would make me consider leaving a company I had so much invested in.

We had been with Direct TV for several years. We sold our house and moved into an RV for a year. We were told we have to get a new (different) box for the RV. When we canceled our service with Direct TV, we were billed $280.00 for early termination. We were told that this was a month to month service up front but are now being told that we were on a two year plan when we changed boxes. No one told us that when we signed up. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and they removed the charge but....on the same day it was removed, AT&T added it back to the bill and are now claiming that it is a past due bill - they are not showing that it was a reversed charge due to being disputed. They told me that it is several months past due and are not showing that it was ever paid. I told them that I have proof that it was paid - my credit card statement. On top of all of that, since we bundled our plan with our AT&T cell phone, they shut our cell phones off even though we have been continuing to pay our cell phone bill. Isn't that extortion? They are saying that in order to continue to receive cell phone service (which we are paying for), I need to pay the $280.00 for the early termination fee for Direct TV? That does not seem right at all.

Same thing happened to me! I was fortunate to be able to get my money back twice by working with my bank but i have since canceled all cards they happen to have all file. I was forced to cancel my service with them because tech support would not come out and fix the satellite that they installed incorrectly and we were always trying to get a better signal. Unfortunately I struggled with this problem for exactly 24 months and when my contract was void and i called to cancel they tried to force me into signing another 24 month contract. When I refused every offer they provided and explained that with only about 45 percent signal strength no offer they could provide would be enough for me to stay the customer service rep. became irate and told me there would be cancellation fee and equipment fees. I refused to pay him over the phone and he pretty much hung up on me! At almost 2 weeks they charged me unlawfully and I immediately disputed the charges! The money was returned and then again in i guess close to a month later they tried it again and unfortunately for them i keep a very close watch on my bank acct. for fear of fraud so once again i disputed the charges and they were once again returned and at this point my accountant advised me to cancel all of my cards and get new ones so thats what i did and thats my story with directv. They are a very slimey and unscrupulous bunch!

I've had the directv service for about four years and no longer have any contract, at least that's what I was told by a rep before directv became at&t, but I'm absolutely unable to get through to them to cancel my service. I don't know what to do. I've been on hold three times for well over an hour each time There's no address to send them back their equipment, no one to speak with, no way to do this online. What a mess!

When I cancelled my service. I was going to pay the bill at the end of the month. Instead I looked at my account and was missing 228. It was a direct tv charge I never authorized. When I called to complain. The rep said direct tv has every legal right to collect the last payment using the last payment information that was used to make a payment. I told the person I never authorized it. No one contacted me and no one asked for my approval. I was told they don't have to have my permission to take my money. I owe it and they will collect it using what ever means they can. When I told them about the over draft fees. The lady said that's a personnel problem and she is sorry for the inconvenience. She then said well your account is paid off so have a nice day. I call and wanted to speak to a manage. Got the same response only nastier. That time I was told it's in the contract I signed giving direct tv to collect last fees using my account on file. Only problem I never kept a payment onfile. I only paid month to month. So they used my dead information on my last payment to get the money from me. Told the manager what would his company do if I reportted the illegal payment taken from my account. He said they would fight it and then send me to collections for all the fees to includie the any legal fees for me claiming they stole the money from me. I will never get advice from direct tv again.

Direct tv is terrible! I work my butt off and pay my bills! I decided to cancel my service with them because I got tired of paying too much money to watch infomercials. I've been happy till tonight when they took almost 200 dollars unlawfully out of my account! Stole money out of my account and they tell me that that's what they do! Not only my dime! Terrible!

Direct tv would not match a competitors price at the end of my contract with tv i told the i would no longer do business with them that i was switching providers and closing my account. For three months they continued to send fraudulent bills, i called them every month and they promise to stop sending bills and to void the balance. After three months they stopped sending bills but left a owed balance and then sent it to the credit bureau.

My my husband is 74 years old and struggling with his health. We had Att Uverse and they recommended that we switch to Direct TV because their receiver was located a distance away and therefore we were having major problems.
A salesman from Direct TV was canvassing our neighborhood and offered us the Ultimate pkg, four free receivers, $200 gift card, free HBO and Showtime, for three mo and nine months. Included in the package was Starz and Cinemax which we presently had. With cable, phone and ultimate package we whew to be locked in for two years. It was installed..when I called the salesman he said that the wouldn't honor it and it would be between $165-180.

I believe that Direct TV is involved with credit card fraud and they should be investigated. After reading many of the stories of so many others that were frauded by this company, there is not a doubt in my mind they are complete scammers. My story, my 82 year old mother had a Direct TV charge on her credit card of $508. She is not a Direct TV or AT&T customer and never has been. When I called them to see if I could find out how this could be possible, they told me to go online to their site and file a payment dispute. I said to them are you kidding me, someone committed credit card fraud and you don't even care or want to help me figure out who did it so I could file a police report. They had to apply the money to someone's account, so there is no doubt they could check their records and figure out who illegally used my mom's credit card, but it is clear they don't care or worse, they are the thieves

AT&T has a long history of Double dipping it's customers. I will never buy another At&t product again.

I also have had an issue with AT&T / Direct TV. I was getting multiple calls and mailers in regards to their $89.99 promotion so I feel for it, it turns out AFTER the first billing cycle they charged me regular rates because "I was not eligible for this promotion" because it was for new customers only and I have been a customer for more than 30 years. The agent never said anything, remember they came to me I never reached out to them.
so after 10 calls to AT&T speaking with 3 countries and 7 states, I am no further now than I was 2 months ago they are still charging early termination fees, along with late fees and my bill is now $568.26. I refuse to pay them these fees I feel it was false advertising and unethical of the agent to even signing me up for the promotion. She knew I had been a long time customer from the get go! I have been robed by a company that I stood behind for over 30 years.

Helped my daughter by paying a small portion of startup fees. Today on 7-11-2016 DirecTv pulled 2 draws on my acct for $300 each, costing me 2, $15 overdraft fees. Both I and my daughter have been on the phone to them. Awaiting reimbursement, but I want overdraft charges as well. I have never authorized any payment to them outside of initial startup fee costs.

I cancelled my service with directv a month ago. I was at ihop eating alone and I handed them my card to and they came back declined. I paid with cash and checked my account on my phone. These bastards took every penny out my account in the amount of $476.30. I used the card attached to this account once to pay my bill. Never did I authorize a autopay. I called my bank and put in a dispute that will take 3-5 business days, in the mean time I just have to figure out to eat and fuel my van that I use for work

I cancelled my direct tv after they did not honor the prices they quoted me. I told them to remove my card on file and twice told the woman they did not have my perimssion to charge anything. The card was supposedly removed at that time. 4 months later they charged me almost 400 dollars without permission. I called them to tell them that they did not have permission to charge my account and the guy said thats not the way it works. He was argumentative and didnt even look at the notes in my file. I know they are not allowed to charge me without permission so I called my bank to open a claim. I will never use direct tv again. They are not a good company, have horrible service, and do not follow the law apparently.

I cancelled my service after less than a year with these people. Returned their equipment and was told of a cancellation fee. I said OK, I'm good with that. I'll call back and pay with a different credit card. A few days later, I noticed a charge on my checking account for $244. I'm like WTF! I immediately call my bank and told them Directv made a FRAUDULENT charge on my account. I never do auto pay with no one. I had called in once or twice to pay my bill with my CC number. My bank returned the charge. I won't ever give out my banking, debit or CC card info again to these thieves. All of these companies are pretty much incorporated thieves.

I just got off the phone with Directv (who is now owned by AT&T) and I am being told that a previous person at my home had a Directv account and never paid the bill. I was not a part of that account. I did not cosign or apply for Directv with this person. This account is also backdating to 2011. I am now being told that I cannot have Directv installed until I pay this balance off.

I signed up for this service during a visit to AT&T. I upgraded my cell phone services with some of those upgrades contingent on my apply for Directv. So now, if I refuse to pay for someone elses balance what is going to happen to my cell phone plan?

I'm contacting Verizon now. I will gladly pay out the @ss in cancellation fees before I pay for someone elses bill!

Last year in June, after heavy marketing from Direct TV and 7 years of being their customer, we decided to accept the "Genie"-no additional charges- and they came out and installed it. When we decided to cancel Direct TV two months ago we were told that we would be charged an early termination fee. I asked how that happened as we had been with them for seven years and was told when we accepted the Genie install we accepted another two year agreement. To which I asked Maggie to prove it. Prove that we signed something or recorded hearing someone tell us via recorded phone conversation that we knew this as we were never told. She continued to read off of her "disgruntled ex-customer script" and never varied. I could probably do her job now as I heard her say the same thing over and over. The real blow though came when they decided to just take the money out of our account- Cuz according to Maggie- we had agreed to that as well and again she could not prove to me that I had. So long story short- they stole my money. STOLE IT. Should not Law enforcement be involved here. It's like a burglar can come in and take my stuff because by leaving my house to go to work I had agreed for them to take my stuff. That is what Direct TV just told me. Because I agreed to take their service, I also agreed for them to plunder my account.

I had been a Directv customer for several years during that time I became dissatisfied with their service. When I initiated the service I did it at a kiosk in a Big Box store. The rep offered to add NFL package for free. I said I did not watch football and he countered its free so I let him add it. A little over a year later I saw a charge for NFL package. I called Directv and rep I spoke with said that it renewed automatically and they do not send out renewal notices. The response was in essence “so sorry to bad” and I was forced to pay the next year’s fees. In 2013 I went to Europe for six weeks. I called and asked for a temporary suspense of service. Directv said that was not possible. Addtionlly the fees had gone up to over $100+ per month and the billing which had been done as a package deal with Verizon was confusing and never seemed to be correct. For these reasons and the fact that the installer was unable to connect all my televisions I canceled all service with Directv.

Sometime in the summer of 2015 I received an unsolicited phone call from Directv. The call was from the “win your business back” group. A very pleasant woman asked me why I left. I explained my reasons. She said in essence “we didn’t treat you very well - will you give us another chance?” She offered to clear up all disputed charges with both Directv and Verizon-an amount of more than $200.00 and she offered a package of $49.00 a month. Unfortunately I accepted. When the first bill arrived all the old charges appeared on it – not what they promised to make the deal. At that point in my view Directv had broken the agreement.

I called Directv that day. We end up in a three way phone call with me, the Verizon rep, and the Directv rep. The Directv rep assured the Verizon rep that Directv would assume the back charges. The Verzion rep asked the Directv rep to send an email assuring that Directv would assume the charges. The Directv rep agreed to do that. I do not know what transpired with regard to the email. I was asked to provide Directv a credit card so that the monthly fees could be charged automatically. Directv said the charges were so low that they need assurance to cover costs. I did that via email.

The next’s month’s bill again failed to remove the old charges. In a rage I called Directv. The young woman I spoke with seemed indifferent at best. When she said essentially I was responsible for the problem I said in what was a very angry tone “Cut the damn service off!” When I turned on a television the next day service had been discontinued. I got a bill from Directv for well over $1000 (now $920 as I have returned their equipment).

I just found out that DIRECTV has stolen $315.11 from my bank account. My mother had been a FAITHFUL DIRECTV customer for over 16 years since 2000, paying over $33,600.00, I paid her bill a couple of times and she's since passed away. Well now they've STOLEN MY MONEY, telling me some bs about "they keep credit card information in case there is an outstanding bill that needs to be paid"......THE ACCOUNT WAS NOT MINES....SO THAT'S STEALING. THIS IS WHY THERE IS SO MUCH CREDIT CARD FRAUD.... I talked to billing and was told they have to submit my request for MY MONEY to the FINANCE DEPT, what does the finance dept have to do with billing stealing my money. I did not authorize them to do this, I never signed up for automatic billing, because I only paid a couple of times......Please include me in a class action suit.....DIRECTV ARE THIEVES.

Isn't this PATHETIC. We too contacted Direct T.V. and set up a service for phone, internet and cable. We were quoted 120.00 for all three. I had to call in for a question ( D.T.V. ) after just a few days and went over a few things and found out that are bill had gone up to 150.00. I called and talked to both Direct and Century Link and got the run around. Finally I talked to a Sup. at Century link who couldn't believe all the problems we were facing. He gave us free shipping on the modem, free install, and a couple of credits including a 45.00 good faith credit, awesome huh, RIGHT. He couldn't understand how Direct could be charging us only 120.00 as he knew what the charges would be with both companies so we did a 3 way conference call with Direct. We talked to a Direct Sup. and he couldn't explain it either other then to say the initial rep who set up our Acct made a mistake. But we were told that the C.L bill would be 54.95. He said he would put notes about are conversation in the Acct. So were still after over a month trying to get D.T.V to lower are bill to the original 120.00 we were promised. Now we get our first bill from C.L ALONE for 130.00, WOW. More then what we were told our bundled pkg would be all together. Called them and were told that our bill wasn't in the computer so they couldn't go over it with us and call back. so before we can call back we get another bill, a disconnect notice. Again call back and were told the same thing our bill were not in the system so they can't go over our bill but call back. The second bill from C.L. is 120.+ unreal. I call back and ask what is going on. Well we don't offer any services for 54.95, we have no idea where you came up with that number. LIE UPON LIE ! so I ask them about our credits and free this and that, well there is nothing in the notes stating that you were ever offered any. So I give them the Sup's name and the date I talked to him and that there should be notes confirming what I've said. Nothing. Well transfer me to the Sup then, nope we can't. So I go back to D.T.V and question them, hey you guys are the ones I went thru to set this all up, you guys are the ones who promised us this bundle for 120.00. You never mentioned C.L. initially but regardless you need to honor this contract. Well they passed it off as CL's fault. I told them that C.L. didn't quote me that price you did. So D.T.V. raises their initial price, C.L. raises there price. No one honors the said quote/contract. No one gives us the credits promised. our 120.00 bundle is now over 200.00. We never received our 100.00 gift card we were told twice had been mailed. So we try to end our service as soon as we get the first bill basically but find out that were beyond the early termination time frame ( How would you know you would want or have to until after the initial bills ) So after roughly 60 phone calls and 15+ hours we have gotten no where. Glad I've taken the time to document all this for what good it's seems to have done. So now I cancel our services and guess what they suddenly tell us that our bill is back to the original 120.00 we were told. O.M.G. How is this possible, how can any company get away with this, how do we have no recourse, and now i get to look forward to our bank Acct debited by these criminals !!!

I have never had Direct TV.
I did however, pay a $29 start up fee for my mother almost half a year ago off of this card but she no longer has service with them.
On 1/28, there was a charge of $12.18 (like a "test" withdraw)
I thought that was odd, but didn't have time yet to call and ask about it.
I then got paid on 2/03. Got ready to pay some bills after work this day, and got a text from my bank of a transaction of $387.92 was approved.
I called Direct TV but they were closed, so I called at work the next day. Got customer service, who told me that I would have to fill out a form online and it will take 7-10 business days to process them even to call me back regarding the issue. I have children, I work full time, and cash on hand is needed every day in my life. I did research on them, and apparently they are pulling this on many other people. Very sad that ANYONE should have to go through this horrible customer service.

I bundled phone internet and TV with Century link in Sept of 2015. The deal was, according to their advertisement, for $54.95 with a price lock of 3 yrs. and Direct TV for &39.99 (Ultimate Package) with a Free Whole Home HD DVR , plus a $200.00 Visa prepaid card . After the so called free installation, It cost me $31.00 to activate the Direct TV installation. It turns out that none of the offer was true. I didn't get the TV for 39.99, I didn't get the $200.00 , I didn't get the free DVR. and my TV Bill alone has increased to 250.00 per month according to my latest Bill. Direct TV blames CenturyLink and CenturyLink blames Direct TV. so here I am without recourse other than to cancel Direct TV and pay a penalty of $390.00 . Fraud and deceptive advertising is a common practice with most Cable Companies , Satellite providers such as Dish and Direct. While the consumer bears the brunt of their greed, their CEO's and powers sit back and laugh at us humans who expect but don't get Honesty and fairness . Apparently the Integrity of their business means little or nothing as long as gouging the public fills their Coffers

I just recently checked my back account this morning and found that Direct TV made an unauthorized charge 261.90 for an early termination fee. This money was set aside for my childcare, car insurance, and gas until next week. I just paid them $50 on last Friday which was authorized but the 261.90 was not. I would suggest to anyone that is considering getting cable through them to look elsewhere. They will go beyond the boundaries that ensures your financial safety. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR DEBIT OR CREDIT CARD INFO. Incase a termination is necessary for any reason they will get your money without your consent.

Very similar story. My card was on file after paying my girl friend's bill. When she cancelled her service they took money out of my account. I had my credit union get the money placed back into my account. A few months later Directv take the money out again. Stating that they denied the dispute. This of course means they are the only ones making the decision. This time the credit union claims there is nothing they can do.

My wife and I were just moving into a new home with our children and our grandchild and thought that the advertisements for DirectTv looked promising. Fast forward a couple months, the cartoon channels start disappearing and the shows that our 3 year old grandson loves watching are gone. We decide to cancel and then we deposit my paycheck which we were going to pay electric bills and car payment with, only to find out that they decided to take 432 dollars out without authorization. When I called customer service, the rep told me that it was authorized when the contract was signed. We never authorized automatic payments because of situations like this and not knowing what is about to be taken out of our account. Now I am dealing with the bank about this and thankfully the electric company is understandable and will wait a couple days for payment. I dont understand how a company such as this can get away with robbing those whom are trusting them into their homes. I would like in on this lawsuit if it is possible. This is unfair, illogical, and if this is the way companies can act, then what can us as consumers do? They stole from us, simple black and white by the letter of the law, what recourse do we have but to fight back. When I called them they gave me an address that was similar to ours but was incorrect. Our street is a split street and the address that our bills have been going to is on the other side. Please contact me if there is any notification or update. Thank you.

A recent divorce, new job and getting robbed set me back a bit in the financial department. Let's just say I've had better years. The plus side is that my job is pretty great but it has occupied my time taking me out of town. Now, recently when I returned home I realized I still needed to return my equipment. Oops. However, following this, over the past three days I have had $1130 charged to my debit card without my prior knowledge. Now generally you receive an email thanking you for paying or some formality of that nature-- I received no notification of this before, or after. Now what I don't understand is that they're able to save info to freely deplete someone's account without their consent. What I also don't understand is the manner in which it was taken. Three different transactions? It's as if they said "let's try this random amount-that worked! let's try another tomorrow!" In addition, when I called I pleaded with the rep to let me simply set up a payment plan instead of taking my rent money and she said it's what I signed up for and she can't help me and I "should have read the fine print." No empathy or anything. We are all human here, and everyone has their struggles. In these past 72 hours I have been forced to get a title loan, sell more belongings and maybe I will be able to pay rent this month. Now whether it was in the fine print or not that my cancellation fees would be exorbitant is a moot point as I couldn't afford to keep the service anyway after the turn my life took as of late. I wasn't a huge fan of the service I received after ATT took over but who doesn't enjoy their DVR. All I asked for was a little sympathy and some time to pay. Now, I've had to freeze my account, open a new bank account, and hopefully I'll be able to make it on this gas tank to salt lake city for work. I have since disputed the charges with my bank and will continue to do so. I'm at a loss. I have never experienced anything like this and hearing that nothing can be done about it is ludicrous. I have worked in customer service my entire life and something can always be done.

I relocated in February 2015. Direct TV continued to debit my account for $207 each month. I realized this in April and called to seek a refund. I was told that I never cancelled the account and was liable for the services. That was April 14, 2015. Unbelievably, I realized that they continue to debit my account each month. I am again told that I did not cancel my services. I finally stopped it in October, by cancelling my debit card. I was charged nearly $1800 for monthly services at a home I no longer occupied! If anyone has insight on how I can approach this, please advise. I have had significant stressors during this time and was not able to monitor my account. This should not cost me $1800. I need to take legal action that will grab their attention. It is obvious that they have been doing this for years and getting away with it. Why?? Has anyone had success in a situation such as mine?

After being laid off from my job I called to cancel my DTV. My 2 year contract was up and customer service told me I should "suspend" my account. She said this way sometime down the road I could simply call them and they would activate my service again. This sounded fine so I agreed. After 7 months we get a $240 entertainment bill on your phone bill from DTV. I called DTV and they said when you suspend an account it automatically reactivates in 6 months! Customer service never told me this! If she had I would have never agreed to that. Now after countless phone calls I cancelled and sent my equipment back. I've been told all disputes are handled online! Now I just submitted a form online that says it will take 10 days to process! Just got another bill today from DTV saying I owe $480 now.

They also charged bus for 199.00 dollars worth of movies that we did not rent. The error was in the box they took and replaced. So they are saying we owe them 350.00 and the 199.00.

Moved, had it for the 2 years (because I 'automatically' renewed when I moved). discontinued service, sent everything back... Everything went great for 10 months. Now I get a $476 charge to may account and Direct says they have no idea why. I was a '5 star' customer and my account is closed..... Seems fishy, but I have a dispute started with my bank and we will see.....

July 21st they took $548 out my bank account for my aunts account that I used my card to pay because she don't have a bank account. I haven't made a payment for her since February, how can they do that. I'm a single parent of 5 kids with no outside help from any agencies or family. I work part time and go to school. Did anything work?

How did Directtv get my new credit card number. I would like to know. I called and as always get the clueless customer service rep.

Be careful as Directtv will get hold of your cards even without permission.

Direct tv took $824.00 out of my bank account without my permission the account wasn't even in my name, yet since my card was used once before to help a friend pay his bill they had the right to do so.

i find it extremely irritating that this company somehow gets away with this! It always their fine print, ok well if it's all knowing and ok to do, than why must it always be in fine print??? If they weren't being shady than why not print in bold? Because they know that nobody would go for this ill designed contract. They just took my rent money. All of it. It's such a pretty picture to invision my 4 daughters and I living in our car. But hey direct tv share holders are doing fantastic, probably on vacation while we will be evicted. Yeah Real cute direct tv.

I had Direct TV 1 month I canceled after finding out that their package price and guarantee was not to par and found out that I am disabled no longer able to work, anyway I called and the lady asked me to do a 6 month thing, I informed her that I really can't afford it now and do not want it and was well within my 30 day limit anyway she said I had to do the 6 month hold. Well nothing has changed I am still disabled no income still living with my daughter.
They sent me a box for the equipment yet to be picked up I informed direct TV that it's on the porch and has been for three weeks now, yet no on picked it up I contacted them today told them if it's not picked up I will obtain a police report that they failed to pick it or up have UPS pick it up.. UPS stated that Direct TV has to order it. IDK
Anyway I received a text today stating they tried to charge me account 585.00 without my permission, I was told I owed them 10.25 yet I told them I dont have it yet and that they do not have permission to take anything from my account to removed my info, I also informed them that any money going into the account would be from Social Security and that I revoke all permissions.. Copy of email in my possession..
My bank canceled my card re issued a new one and they filed the a fraud alert in my behave. They are crooks!

When I called the said since it wasn't in my name that I can go to my bank and contest the charges and get my money back but my bank isn't open till Monday and I work till 3:30 and there is no telling when I will get my money back, thanks Direct TV for being the sketchy low life thieves.

In 2010 DirecTV (DTV) began replacing all personally owned Digital Satellite Service (DSS) Receivers, with their 'Improved' receivers. This exchange was advertised as the "MPG Swap" and was represented as "Free" No Cost Increase or Contract extension.
For the next several month's my bill showed a $6.00 charge ("Rec. Fee") followed by a $6.00 credit. Then the fee was gone, as was the credit, but my programming fee went up by $6.50 per mo.
Received an E-Mail from DTV, that receiver rental fees will no longer be listed seperatly, but will be included in the programming fee. Am I the only one who smells 'deception'?
With 10's of thousands of Thompson DSS receivers out there, I can't believe I'm the only one paying $13.00 a month, for something that was supposed to be free. Class Action anyone?

I have the same question as Mr Frank Harmon: Direct TV has misrepresented there services, failed to disclose and failed to inform. All I want is out of my contract. Is there currently a lawsuit in progress that I can join to penalize them for their actions?

I had planned on canceling my service on June 25, 2015. Now, I am afraid to do so. Please advise.

When I called to subscribe to Direct TV they requested a $230 deposit due to my poor credit (I had been laid off work and living was very difficult), I gave it to them using my debit card. Upon receipt today of my second statement I called because there was a charge of $2.15 labeled as a "Regional Sports Fee". I don't watch any sports nor does anyone in my household and I had specifically declined their offer of a trial version of their sports program at the time I ordered service; so why am I being charged a regional sports fee. I was told that this fee is based on my area and it was not possible to remove this charge. However, they continued, if I added an additional 45 channels at a fee of $6+ per month, they would take all sports off my TV. Laughable isn't it?

So I went onto my next issue, when would I receive the return of my "deposit" of $230? I was then told for the first time that this deposit was non-refundable. I questioned how/why a deposit is non-refundable and why it was that it was non-refundable. I was told that because of my poor credit I was required to make a deposit and that it was marked non-refundable. I never received a reason why it was marked non-refundable or why I wasn't told that it was a fee, not a deposit. They chose to illegally mislead me, calling it a deposit and not a fee. I told them that I knew they recorded all their customer service calls and they could review my call from February 2015 to verify what I was told. I requested to speak with a supervisor which they happily agreed to, though it took quite some time to get one on the line. The first thing the supervisor did upon connection to me was to give me her name and tell me that she could not change anything with regard to my deposit. She listened to me, and agreed on every point. She spent quite some time reading, but was unable to do anything. I was getting quite angry by this time and told her that I understood she couldn't do anything to change my non-refundable deposit to refundable but surely she could transfer me to someone who could. At this time she informed me that because I had just today received my second statement I waited too long, I missed the time frame in which something could be done.

I was never transferred to anyone with the authority to change my deposit to "refundable". The supervisor did however tell me that I could get with my bank and dispute the charge on my bank account. But she then informed me that while I could get with the bank and make a dispute, Direct TV would then place the $230 charge on my bill so that I would owe it anyway.

For a corporation as large as Direct TV (now owned by ATT) to deliberately mislead a customer and steal $230 and then have their own people admit the wrong doing but not do anything to remedy the problem is unconscionable. You would think that a company that has already been in hot water with the FTC for "misleading" customers, would have learned their lesson, but I guess they feel that they are above all that. I willingly recognize that my poor credit is cause for the assessment of a deposit to guarantee my account. The whole premise of a deposit is that it will be refunded to you after a specified time period or that the balance of my deposit will be applied to the final balance on my account at the time I end my 2 year contract. Unfortunately according to Direct TV supervisor, Luwaan in Georgia, it will not happen in my case. They just took away my right to make an informed decision as to whether or not I want to agree to the privilege of giving them $230 which will never be returned or refunded. Direct TV illegally misrepresented to me that the $230 was a deposit when in fact it was a fee.

Every comment that I've read on this page is correct is every way. DirecTV is a criminal company that needs to be stopped and dismantled by our state and federal government and their $12 million annual salaried company President indicted on federal charges, he has the policy power to stop all of this.

I went through the same DirecTV bullshit as everyone else with overcharges, unauthorized charges, bank and credit card issues. There is no written contract with DirecTV, everything is verbal on the phone. It's time to start another class action lawsuit against DirecTV as apparently they didn't learn from the first few lawsuits however they paid out millions to the consumer.

Contact/send letters to the BBB, your state attorney general and the Federal Trade Commission about how crooked DirecTV really is and what they have done to you as a consumer. Get in on a class action, it's time to put a damper on DirecTV's criminal activity.

I was a happy direct tv customer. Never had a single issue. Then due to a disaster we lost our house. We moved and did not switch over service right away. Then one day 500 was missing from our bank account. I was informed by customer service that my suspension was not processes properly and my account had gone into collections and that notices were sent to our former address. Crazy idea direct tv. Call me. At least let me know you are going to take money from me.

My wife, 2 year old son, and I moved to a new house 2+ months ago, we had directv at our old place and decided to do the movers deal, paid them $175.00 in advance to set up equipment at the new house. When the technician came to install the dish, he could not get a line of sight so he could not install causing my contract to be voided. I Contacted directv and it took me 3 customer service reps and 2 managers to cancel my contact. I had a half months bill still left on my account so they used the $175.00 to credit that to the half months bill and refund me the change. (none of this happened) Fast forward to today. After not having directv for 2 months, they decided to charge $194.63 to my debit card. (I have never authorized them to make automatic payments or charges. I always did one time payment online) I contacted them and was told that it was for the final bill (which was paid with the $175.00 plus a late fee. I told them about the moving fiasco and was told that They will investigate it which can take up to 10 business days.

This couldn't have happened at a worse time, my family is already struggling being a one income household, my wife went to buy groceries and my card declined. Most of our bills have been paid but now we have no MO we for food for two weeks. Thanks Directv, I will proceed to let the world know about how your company scams people.

We have been with DTV for nine months, and they just raised our bill. The man I talked to Vincent said every ones is going up. I have a TWO year contract with them, I did pay my bill the entire amount, which I plan on getting back. I’m going to get my ducks in a row, go thru all my bills, get a new visa, and pay my bill some other way.

I was also charged an early cancellation fee by DirecTV. We bundled with CenturyLink, then CL screwed us over. We were told we were not bundled, so there was no 2 year contract. DTV sent us a bill for early termination even though we never had an agreement with them. When we called them to dispute, we were told DTV has different practices than CL and we were in contract with both. Further, CL did not pay DTV, which caused DTV to shut off our service. DTV called stating they wanted their equipment back, but did not inform us of any fees. When I asked if that was it, the rep said, "Yes." After receiving the bill, we called and were told we should have made an effort to continue our DTV service and we wouldn't have been charged if we had stayed with DTV. Unethical and we want in on this class action lawsuit.

Canceled direct TV in November 2014; they took money out of my cjhercking even though were told not to, causing a overdraft charge, direct TV chargers for equipment not returned, even though it was returned, direct TV would not let me lock in the rates. They said it was my fault it was not locked in. Also my bill was suppose to be 29.99 a month. However it was never less than 89.99 a month, when I asked why the difference, I always got the run around. Now they are trying to collect 436.00 dollars, saying I owe it when I don't, also my house was damaged when they installed the service, I have been fighting with them since September 2012, to fix the damage. I don't know how they stay in business, with all the fraud they do.

After 14 years we cancelled service to Directv. Other than the first two years, I never had a contract with them nor was ever told one was automatically added to my account. I had an early cancellation fee of $260! I spent TWO FULL HOURS on the phone arguing they never told me about a contract and they couldn't provide me with proof of my signature, a recording of my voice saying it was okay, or the written contract. I was also transferred to different "supervisors" who would tell me the same thing over and over that it came automatically for two years with the lease when I added a room. That was never explained to me. After reading other comments, I'm in the same boat with many. I want in with this lawsuit, too!

Cancelled service Jan. 2015 after 10 years of service. Sent back cards. Receivers were not requested to be returned.
Just got a bill for 140.00 for Pay for view from 2008 and up.
What is my liability. Texas has a 4 year SOL on debt, is this just loans and such and would this be outside that law.
I contend it is their problem I did not pay, If I even ordered these movies, as their system did not account for the Pay for view. I do not remember ever ordering many pay for view movies.
Should I contest this? I have asked for itemized list of charges and bills for the month following the charges to see if I did indeed pay for them and would be paying twice if I paid this bogus statement.
What ground do I stand on. It appears Direct TV actually has a website advising they have all kinds of rights and to pay bill, to avoid hassles.

I want in. I was lied to to get their services...they can out and installed their equipment in my home and the next day I realized that I was lied to. They said they had something like netflix on their system. That I would have access to over 10,000 movies to watch anytime. Well when they install it takes 12 hours for the movies to download, well I go to bed get up and go to work the next day...I come home and look at the so called almost like netflix...well you have to pay 3.99 and up for almost every movie...the only ones that are free are like 1950's movies. So I called to cancel and they told me I was over my 24 hour grace period and would be charged $480 to cancel. They tried and tried to get me to stay offering a $25 credit...WOW! I even got a $200 gift card for joining and they stopped it but still charging me the $480...they are nothing but liars and thieves.

I had problems also as they tried to charge me for the free installation. They wanted my bank card number. Well I opened a account and got a debit card. I told them I wanted to be billed at home. They said they just needed a small payment on my card Well they took out about 30.00 dollars and billed me at home. In the mean time as I found out they were crooked and a predatory company I imeadiatly closed my account just to be on the safe side. when they took out the small payment I was promised a 50.00 credit and a prepaid bank card for 100.00. Well I have to Yet to get either.Any time I had problems I spent Hours on the phone. When they Installed the system the told me they would have to come back as the ground was frozen. When the ground was unfrozen I told them to get out here and bury the cable. they told m there would be a 50.00 charge I told them I wouldn't pay it and if it wasn't done they could count on legal action being taken.I must say this is one of the worst experience I have ever Had. The only thing I want to tell you ,don't give them a credit card or debit card number. Once you give them your number , it s like giving them the keys to your bank. I am a business man selfemployed for 53 years And I thought I have seen every thing, but this gets all I have ever seen. Good luck if you deal with this outfit, you will need it.

How can i be part of this lawsuit direct tv over charged me an stuck me with about 1,000 in cancellation fees

Posted by

on
So, to begin, somebody at DirecTV took me off of my autodraft payment schedule which has worked well for years. That resulted in a "late notice" for an overdue payment. An unnecessary phone call to to "customer service" resulted in a reversal of the late notice and a $5 call-in fee. That was cancelled with another unnecessary phone call.

Now I'm starting to get the picture about DirecTV.

My latest DirecTV bill--on autodraft--showed a new charge for "Regional Sports Fee." Upon questioning customer service I learned that my subscription package has for years always included these "regional sports" channels, though I never watch them. In other words, my subscription package pays for these channels and, yet, I'm now supposed to pay for them again--a double charge--through this new sports fee. Foul!

Of course, there was nothing that customer service could do about this. It didn't take much challenge before the agent realized he wasn't as helpless as he might have thought.

Oh, and I made it quite plain that there would be no $5 service charge to me for using "customer service."

Woke up this morning and logged into my bank account to fund out i was charged $605 worth of cancelation fees from direct tv. I was not in auto bill pay nor did i authorize this payment. I called direct tv and told them i did not ok them to charge my account at this time they told me there is nothing they can do. Not only did they take our rent money they put my account into the negative and was charged an overdraft fee. How can they get away with charging an account without ones consent? Plus we were no longer thier customer.

I canceled my directv contract a few weeks ago. I checked my bank account this morning to find they went into my account and took 660.00 dollars out using my debit card on file. That was money my husband and I had saved to cover a check that was written to pay the down payment on a new vehicle we had to purchase when our old own broke down. When I called I was told they were sorry but it is their policy to do that to help my credit score. I could care less about my credit score right now. It's our only vehicle. Since it was done with my card number and not a check there is nothing I can do to stop them.

Last December I canceled my account with Directv because it was getting more and more expensive and went with a local company namedFidelity. Well at 8pm last night my phone dinged letting me know that I was overdrawn 499 dollars, when I went to look, Directv had charged me 700.51 dollars. So I immediately call them wanting to know what was up. I told them this was unauthorized and they just bounced the crap out of me. After being transferred 6x and had to explain that I returned the items and all I owed was 200.00, All I got was I canceled my contract early. Well I explained to them I have been with them since march 2012 and my contract was up last year in march. Well apparently over a year ago when there was a thunderstorm, lightening hit close to our house and our receiver stopped working so we called Directv troubleshooting and was on the phone trying to get it fixed and the Directv guy said "it doesn't work, we will send you a new one" Well apparently without my knowledge that restarted a whole new 2 yr contract. Then I asked the lady named Alex tonight, why didn't they tell me in December when I canceled, that I was still in contract, because I wouldn't of canceled yet, she didn't have an answer for that. So bottom line after being on the phone for 2 hours with them I got no where. I have googled this and apparently this happens ALOT!!! I want to know how I can be put into another 2 yr contract without my knowledge for a receiver that quit working. And how can they charge me with out me knowing when and how much. My last bill states 243 which I knew I owed. Very very frustrated. Is there anything I can do. I don't believe I owe 345 for break of contract or 100 for equipment because I sent it back. I have a receipt from the post office as proof.

I equate these so-called ETF's with something I might as well call (CCE's), or Corporate Criminal Enterprises. If nothing else, than from an ethical point-of-view. All of your major telecommunication companies are now doing this. What they don't know is that they're simply shooting themselves in their own feet. They're not looking at the bigger picture and all those lost consumers, and consequently the lost revenue down the road.

I am now going through this with Directv and with AT&T Uverse Internet. Total damages; about $380-390.

I was told that since they have my credit account number on record, that if I do not pay these charges within 15 days of terminating services, they look at it like a charge to my service acct. and will extract that dollar amount directly out of my bank account. No questions asked.

Nice of 'em, ain't it? Hey, look at the positive side; at least you don't have to waste your time and energy writing them a check. They just help themselves to your hard earned money and all because you are, or were, trying to save yourself 20-30 bucks a month by finding cheaper service. In all fairness to me, as if anybody cares about your truly, I, like many many others was not aware that I was in a contract situation. With either provider.

The Bigger Picture For Me Personally: I'm gonna try to get a new vehicle in a few months. I'll need to finance that vehicle. That'll be difficult to do with a bad debt hanging over your head. If this gets turned over to collections, that's what'll happen. And that's how people lives become senselessly complicated, which of course leads to physical problems resulting from the needless and senseless stress. And all because of, and in the name of---we want to keep you as a customer.

The laws that are on the "books" enable this criminal behavior by these large corporations. Until that changes, nothing changes.

Somebody's got to step up to the plate and stop this criminal practice. I wonder who it will be?

One time over a year ago I made a one time payment for my mother on my debit card. All of the sudden I notice on my bank account that directv took a $200 payment. I have never watched these channels, I was told there was nothing they could about this bill increase, I explained if under contract how can they raise rates. No answer. I have checked these channels and they are JUNK, most of the time no programming. What's next directv customers?

Posted by

They STILL fail to disclose... especially if you decide to move. ALL other TV providers install your equipment for free if you have been on contract with them for a year. Except DirecTV! At first they try to charge you $500, then drop the rate to $235. The Mover's deal doesn't disclose the fee involved in moving to a new residence. If you don't want to pay the moving fee of $235 which then will extend your contract, you can cancel and they will charge an ETF from your debit card without notice causing overdraft fees. The only way to fix it currently is to dispute the charges and change your account number /debit or credit card number.

This happened to me recently and I had to cancel because the landlord said no to satellite tv. but after begging and pleading with him for 3 months he finally allowed us Satellite TV so after my recent experience with DirectTV I heard alot about their competitor's customer service and signed up with them and have been happy ever since. I have a complaint filed with BBB and the attorney general and soon the FCC. So if they think about collections, that will be easier to dispute also.

I had the service connected on March 30th. I stated to the technician the TV’s had a shadow. He checked all three and said we have to let it adjust to the TV. If it doesn’t clear up call technical support. Later that evening, I couldn’t take the shadows anymore and called technical support. The female tech stated she could not help me without knowing which cable boxes I had. I told her which model they were but again, she suggested I call back tomorrow.

On March 31st, I spoke with a male tech. Telling him I would like to cancel the service because the picture has a shadow, I can’t deal with it; and no one seems to be able to help. He acknowledged he saw I had just gotten the service installed and said he will send out a tech (at no charge) because they don’t want me to cancel and would like resolve the issue I’m having. He also stated it could just be the connections. The earliest the technician was able to come was Tuesday, April 2nd between 10:30am – 11:00am.

April 2nd, he arrived before 10:30 am. After several tries, he could not get the shadow to go away. I explained I got better service from my regular antennas when I didn’t have cable. “What’s the purpose of getting cable if regular TV is better and clearer with an antenna? The satellite dish should make the picture crisp.” He said, “It is what it is. This is the best it will get because you have the basic DVR boxes. The only way to get a crystal clear picture is to upgrade to the Genie.” I said, “Well then, just cancel my service because I can’t afford that.” He informed me I had to call and cancel.

I called at 10:10am to cancel my service with the DirecTV agent, Jay. I was told I had twenty-four (24) hours to cancel. I replied, “All the times I called, no one mentioned that; and it doesn’t say it anywhere on the contract and the flyers you keep putting in mailboxes that you have 24 hours to cancel. That’s misrepresentation. The same way you have to legally disclose to the caller, ‘this call is being recorded’, and ask the caller's permission if you can call them by their first name, you are obligated to disclose to a new consumer that they have twenty-four (24) hours to cancel their contract with (DirecTV)." Instead they kept prolonging the issue. Not once did any of the DIRECTV technicians legally disclose to me, the consumer, “Ms. XXXX, I DO NEED TO ADVISE YOU THAT YOU DO HAVE 24-HOURS TO CANCEL YOUR AGREEMENT WITH DIRECTV.” Never ever was it divulged to me at any time on Saturday night; the day it was installed, Sunday or Tuesday when the technician came out.

I called to cancel my service at (800) 438-2427 at 11:21. I was given another number (888) 355-7530 to cancel. I called them at 1:49 pm. Another woman called wanting to offer me more stuff. I said right now, I just want to cancel and send this stuff back. The calls are recorded. Request the tapes. She also informed me about returning the equipment. I asked what about the satellite dish. She stated, "You can leave it in case you change your mind later." I said I wouldn’t. She said it was free. You know why it’s free? If you remove it, it will leave holes in your home's siding. If not resealed, it will cause damage your property. THAT’S WHY IT’S FREE AND THEY DON’T WANT IT RETURNED TO THEM. They should be paying to remove it and seal the holes from the installation.

I am totally dissatisfied with this company. They ask that I return the boxes. I tried to return them to their local office but they would not take them. I had to wait for the boxes to be shipped. I received a bill for the equipment before the returnable boxes arrived. When they finally arrived, I boxed the equipment according to the instructions and took them personally to my local post office.

There should be an investigation of how many other homeowners/renters are dissatisfied and have been misrepresented and harassed by DirecTV for whom poor service was provided.

I told Jay a person legally has 72 hours to cancel. It's called emotional shopping. We have 72 hours to change our mind. I've NEVER heard of 24 hours. The Legal term is actually called (in some states) a "cooling off period."

There should be a world-wide lawsuit against DirecTV to right a wrong done to helpless consumers who have been literally raped by DirecTV, the banks and credit card companies that partnered together to strip the consumer of any control over the dispute of the Cable companies w/o prejudice.

On March 19th 2013 I talked to ID# 0093 after a long conversation and passed to at least 2 others I was reassured over and over that the $724.67 would be deposited back into our account in 25-20 days. This was not acceptable to me and I made it clear in no less than 10 business days. Again she reassured me that the deposit would be there in 10 business days. The recording to this conversation should be available with no problems to you. Steve also called this day to verify that the money would be deposited into the account as well and was told yes the amount of $724.67 would be deposited back into the account in 10 days.
On April 3rd 2013 I spoke to id # 9338 but not before speaking to an agent before her and I did not get her id #. For the first time I was told I would not be receiving the refund of $724.67 would not be put back into our bank account. With my stomach turning and getting even more upset I was finally transferred to a manager id # 6509 John, who repeatedly cut me off would talk when I was talking, and when I brought this to his attention, he immediately blamed me! Over and over again I asked the agent and manager to listen to the tape of March 19th to verify what I was saying was correct ,and there was no mention of any past due bill nor a fee for canceling early, all I was told is that they cannot do that! Steve also called on this day and was again reassured that the money would not be put back into the account UNLESS we were willing to come back to Direct T.V. (is this bullying, or blackmail, or holding our money hostage?)

Centurylink actually solicited us a package to switch to Direct TV from Dish. Said we would save $10. a month. The service was terrible always losing reception but for $10. a month we were willing to put up with it. However, for 3 consecutive months our bill was $195 or more when we were told it would have been approx. $146! Each month we had to call and fight with Centurylink and DirectTV to get the bille reduced. After sitting hours on the phone each month with no resolve we cancelled the service. Our credit card was charged 419.00, we had them reverse it. By the way, all the DirectTV customer service reps said they were not allowed to give out their # or return our calls. One lady did promise to call us back but didn't. Now it's funny, we have a message on our voice mail every day to call them, a computer of course. I guess they will threaten to sue us!

I've endured DirecTV's horrific customer service for 2 yrs. I was enticed to switch from a cable company to this satellite company for television. From the word go, this company has used unethical policies to charge customers for every type of fee conjured up by themselves. Here we are at the end of the contract date (10/12/12) and I just want a clean break. At the time I ended this contract, I discover that I'm paying for a sports package that I never ordered. I tell their "supervisor" that it is illegal to charge my credit card w/o my permission. He tells it's "automatic". When I 1st tried to cancel my subscription, they threatened to charge me an early deactivation fee ($500) and pay out the rest of the contract. How can they continue to do this? If there is a current class action against them, please include me.

Getting Directv was a really bad decision. I'm stuck for 2 years or have to pay outrageous fees. They haven't carried my local station for a month and have been under weather warnings. I'm telling everyone I can what a mistake it is to sign up with them.

Direct TV has just made an unauthorized charge to my credit card that I withdrew several months ago as a payment option. I followed all of their requirements for early cancellation. The apartment I moved to did not have access to a southern exposure. I tried speaking to a representative. Wow. I don't ever recall talking over the customer as a good customer service tactic. This woman was unbelievable. What kind of recourse do I have? If they used my card once, they'll certainly use it again. I can't even access my account online because it says that the account has been closed.

This certainly comes as no surprise to me. Being a former DirecTV subscriber, I too have endured the injustice of DirecTV. Personally I could appreciate the TV aspect of the experience but the customer service and overall mentality of the company was horrible. Every company will have a slip up with the bill every now and again but it was constant, and the fact that as a company refused to correct their mistakes began to take its toll. It isn’t surprising to me that DIRECTV has had over 40,000 complaints from customers for false advertisements to the Better Business Bureau. I work and subscribe to [a competitor] so I can get to see both sides of our customer service and I can honestly say that there is a reason we got #1 on the ACSI (American Customer Satisfaction Index). –Christopher DeHerrera

Direct TV has misrepresented there services, failed to disclose and failed to inform. All I want is out of my contract. Is there currently a lawsuit in progress that I can join to penalize them for their actions?
