Phentermine

Fen phen, which was withdrawn from the market in 1997, is a combination of fenfluramine and phentermine: Phentermine is the "Phen" in Fen Phen.

Phentermine

(Pondimin is the brand name for fenfluramine and Redux is the brand name for dexfenfluramine).

In 1997 Fen phen and Redux were taken off the market by Wyeth, the manufacturer, after it was discovered that using these drugs in combination led to serious cardiovascular side effects, including Primary Pulmonary Hypertension (PPH).

PPH is a rare blood vessel disorder in which blood pressure in the pulmonary artery connecting the heart to the lungs rises to dangerously high levels. PPH is sometimes fatal.

Investigations conducted by the Mayo Clinic found 24 cases of heart valve disease in patients treated with the combination of phentermine and Pondimin (fen-phen). Another study found that of 291 patients who had been treated with Pondimin or Redux, usually in combination with phentermine, nearly 1/3 showed abnormal echocardiograms.

Seeing all these comments upsets me. I have been on phentermine for three months for obesity, lost a lot of weight, and am having zero heart issues. Obesity also can cause heart problems! I am not worried about this drug and am of course taking it under the supervision of my doctor. I really don't see that this particular medication is a problem. I feel really bad for those of you who have been having a hard time on this med. If you lost a loved one or have had major health issues, I do feel really bad for you folks. I'm just saying this med isn't for everyone but it has helped me. Most doctors do not prescribe it for longer than around three months anyway.

Prescribed phentermine multiple times from 2008-2017, dx with brain aneurysm and abnormal echocardiograms in 2014, and 2017-2018. Psychological issues over the years, kidney stones, edema, teeth issues, sleep issues, and adrenal/metabolism issues. Stopped phen in 2017 and have been trying to heal and help my body ever since. This prescription drug should be banned from the market.

This weight loss drug put my otherwise healthy husband on heart failure. He went from climbing mountains while hunting to being told he couldn't even pick our grandkids up and that his heart could stop at any minute. This drug needs to be pulled before anyone else is effected by it .

I took phentermine in 2018 to loose weight after having my son, I only took a half dose for 3 days and the full dose for 3 days before I was rushed to the ER for shortness of breath, heart palpatations and tingling pain running down my arms to my hands and legs to my feet. I was only 31 years old and previously healthy. I have been to the emergency room 6 times last year alone, multiple doctors and medical universities since. Every ER visit is the same so when I feel lile I'm about to die I just don't go anymore. My body has since lost the ability to control my blood pressure which is dangerously low now, my heart rate is high and uncontrollable, I have vision problems, sexual dysfuction, cognitive problems and so on. The dr diagnosed me as having autonomic dysfunction but because of more recent symptoms (vision issues in one eye migraines etc) as well as psychological symptoms (rapid cycling of emotions anger depression anxiety) I am going to see a neurologist to see if phen damaged my brain / nervous system. Now I have a host of health issues with no idea if it will kill me and I have a baby to take care of. You think it's not going to be you, that you will jist use phen for a short time to jumpstart weightloss...u think you will be aware enough to stop taking the drug when side effects start but you are lying to yourself...i thought all of those things and it was damaging my brain and body the whole tome...it was too late. One week on this ruined my life. The irony of this all is in spite of my poor health i was able to loose the weight naturally. There is no quick fix no easy way out in life without a consequence. I pitty any person who lies to themselves and takes this posion. .

i was taking Phentermine for 2 years and had a psychotic breakdown which let to schizophrenic thoughts in which landed me in jail and loss of job. I have never had psychosis before this happened. Now I am unable to work but have since stopped taking the meds and no longer hallucinating. This drug is very dangerous even though it was prescribed by a doctor for weight loss.

I started phentermine September 2017 through January 2018. I now hav been diagnosed with A-fib, shortness of breath and PVC’s. I’m scheduled in December to have an ablation done. I had no blood pressure issues, no diabetes and my cholesterol is in normal range other than being 30lbs overweight I’m very healthy. Is there any legal action that can be taken against the drug company??

I took phentermine in 2012, for about 6 weeks or so. I went to put my sandals on and my ankles and legs were completely swollen. It took over a year to figure out what was wrong with my legs. It is called lipodermatosclerosis. I had absolutely no problems with my legs prior to taking those pills. Now my legs are discolored, heavy, hard as rocks, and it hurts like hell to walk. This is a side effect from those pills. My legs are permanently damaged and my life is forever changed.

I start taking phentermine A month in a half ago. The first 3 weeks I lost weight and I was happy until I got a rash around my eyes like a racoon mask. Then Im dealing with kidney stones and maybe an infection and kidney failure. I am terrified. My lungs hurt when I breathe. I go to the doctor tomorrow. I hope nothing is permanent and I dont lose a kidney over this. But if you are researching just to see if you want to take it....Dont. Its not worth it.

I started taking Phentermine pills in 2011 due to gaining an unusual amount of weight after having my gallbladder removed in 2009. I never had a weight issue until after my surgery. I had the typical side effects like the racing heart/palpitations, mood swings and not sleeping well but I was so amazed at how much weight I lost, I didn't worry about the side effects. I actually felt good about myself, had extreme amounts of energy and would go a few days without eating. I stopped taking the pills in 2012 because I was losing too much weight and looked like a stick. I slowly gained back the weight so I went back on them having good results but not like I did the first time. I noticed that my weight was going down but my stomach would ache a lot and looked bloated. I went to my general practitioner who ordered an MRI that indicated I have something very rare called Mesenteric Panniculitis. It's some sort of disorder where your intestines cannot process fat properly so it distributes it throughout your body and can be very dangerous if it surrounds your organs and shuts them down. To my surprise, she prescribed me a few months of Phentermine pills. She said to be careful not to lose too much weight but nothing on how to treat my new found issue so I didn't worry about it since she didn't seem concerned. My stomach never went back to being flat but my weight was at a great range so I didn't worry about it much. I stopped taking Phentermine in late 2016 because of money issues and since then, my stomach has bloated out like I'm 7 months pregnant. The bloating is confined to the center of my stomach area (around my belly button) where I had laparoscopic surgery to remove my gallbladder. I never feel good anymore and will be getting an appointment to find out what is going on. I never had issues with my body breaking down fat until I took those pills so are they what caused this rare disorder and very strange bloating in my stomach? I expected to gain weight when I stopped taking Phentermine but I expected it to be all over my body not just in one area of my stomach like I swallowed a beach ball. Has anyone else had these types of problems? Has anyone else been diagnosed with Mesenteric Panniculitiis? Thank you for your help.

I took this drug for 3 and a half months when my hair started falling out at a very rapid pace. Hair loss is not listed as one of the possibly side effects but it should be. After researching other users, many of them have experienced the same hair loss. I stopped taking it about 2 months ago but still losing hair. I only have about half of what I had before. I wish I was never taken this drug! Had I known hair loss was a side effect, or my doctor had told me, I never would have taken it. The maker of this drug should be held accountable

Wife took Phentermine for thirteen days prior to dying unexpectedly. No warning what so ever. She simply walked out the front door of our home to go to the mailbox and died suddenly in the driveway. She had also been experiencing terrible mood swings and severe anxiety while taking this Dr. prescribed drug.

I have taken phentermine for years. Out of 12 years, i have been off for approximately 2 years total. I have all but ruin every tooth in my head. I have about 4 left that do not have crowns/root canals. My skin is dry and itches all the time. My kidneys do not function properly which from what I was told by my doctor, they are causing the leg pain, itchy skin, nausea and tiredness. When your kidneys are. It working properly, your not filtering all that needs to be filtered from your body. I did loose weight in the beginning but it was from the energy to get up and move! I worked out harder back then than ever in my whole life.
Now, today I weigh more than I have ever weighed in my life. Bad, limp hair, have to take pills to sleep (OTC sleep aids & ibuprofen) and pills to get up. If I miss one of the 7 bottles of water I HAVE to drink daily my kidneys let me know by creating back pain, headache and achy joints!
Please stay away from these pills! Being thin for a short time is not worth loosing your peace of mind, health and natural beauty that God has given to you!

I have been on phentermine for about a month.

I've had severe teeth issues since being on the product. Chips teeth, filling falling out, etc.

There have got to be something wrong here. It's pulling all the calcium out of my body.

For now I am not going to take them until someone can explain why I'm losing my teeth.

I am now 29 years old and was giving phentermin as a child aeound 12 or 13 yeara old. I have had problems ever since such as extremem tachycardia. My heart rate is approx 130 beats a min resting and over 200 while doing exercise. I also get fluttering in my chest. I also get shortness of breath and dizzy while standing up almost to the point of passing out. I have been trying to lower the heart rate by medications from my cardiologist with no success. Please let me know if this is one of the side effects that is covered.

I had a normal EKG 2 years ago. I was on Phentermine for 2 months. Almost immediately I started being dizzy, extremely fatigued, and having extreme shortness of breath. My doctor treated me twice for bronchitis before telling me it was all in my head. Now, 3 months later, and after 1 month of no Phentermine I am still having worsening symptoms. I started out with a healthy heart and now may need surgery.

I took the drug for 3 days. On the third day I had to be rushed via ambulance to the hospital because my heart rate went through the roof and I was having major palpatation problems.

In the month and a half that I had taken phentermine, it ultimately lead me to develop severe panic attacks and anxiety, which has since been diagnosed by a psychiatrist. I've been on antidepressants off and on for over two years due to this diagnosis. I was never diagnosed with either anxiety or depression before taking phentermine.
