Corinthian Colleges Inc.

Were you looking for For-Profit Education Fraud lawsuits?

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the for-profit education provider for allegedly misleading students regarding graduate employment prospects and starting salaries. The lawsuit was filed in Santa Clara Superior Court on behalf of graduates of the Medical Assistant vocational programs offered at Bryman College, now named Everest College. The class action claims Corinthian Colleges Inc. and its wholly owned subsidiary Corinthian Schools Inc. made untrue statements claiming their programs were approved by the California Department of Education.

Corinthian offers vocational programs at approximately 14 schools located throughout California. The programs, which typically last from six to 13 months, are offered primarily to people who have graduated from or otherwise left high school.

According to the lawsuit, the vast majority of students enrolled must finance the high cost of these courses. Charges for these vocational programs typically range between $7,000 and $15,000, but can cost as much as $27,000. The suit alleges Corinthian offers financing through lenders via a combination of government grants, government subsidized loans, high-cost private loans, and Corinthian's own credit programs. Carnegie Student Loans and SLM Corp.'s Sallie Mae Inc. were also named as defendants in the suit.

I attended one of Corinthian Colleges schools in 2001 and 2003 in which was then Georgia Medical Institute, the name has now changed to Everest Institute. I read some information that stated there was a class action lawsuit filed against them after I graduated, and was misinformed about the job placement and employment rates for the Medical Billing and Coding Program from this school. I never received notice of a lawsuit and this loan is just ongoing and I can't get the money back I've paid. What do I need to do?

I graduated Everest University 5 years ago with my Bachelors in Paralegal, and apparently, Everest University is at fault for not following through in their career services department/division. They pretty much guaranteed that once I get a Bachelors Degree that I was qualified and certified to become a Paralegal. That was bull. Now I am in the hole $100,000 in student loans for this crap. If anything, I want my student loans paid off in full because of this mischaracter of justice.

I'm afraid I may miss out on an employment opportunity all because I can't locate my records from them. They apparently failed to file transcripts and diplomas of students. Please advise.

8 years after graduation I was still not employed as a MA. I have 2 kids that I have to take care of and I can't further my education because Everest never kept they're word about helping me with job placement. For the entire 8 years employers just kept telling me that I don't have enough experience and that they don't trust the people who graduated from Everest because previous people didn't know what they were doing.

I graduated in about 2006 with my medical assistant degree only to loose my job. I have called several places to get my records from there to prove I went only to find out that they are "not available". I have heard that they were destroyed when they closed. I would like more information in the lawsuit please.

I enrolled in a medical billing and coding class in Oct. 2007. I graduated in the top of my class, with perfect attendance. The course offered was five months, including one month externship. When I enrolled, I was told that I would do "very well" financially. I was encouraged to take out student loans for the course. And the overage could be charged to a private lender. Those loans total over $15,000.00, not including interest. Sallie Mae has received payment for 8 years, and the principal balance hasn't even begun to be paid for. I was also charged for a "certification" that is not recognized in the billing industry. I was placed with a doctor that was not accredited in the state. That job ended within a month. I contacted the school to be placed and was told to check out Craigs List, and "good luck" I'm now in my 60's, widowed, on social security, still trying to pay off the scam of Everest College.

I attended Olympia College - name changed to Everest College - College no longer exists in Chicago, in 2006.

I took out a student loan for the education, through Sallie Mae, which transferred my account to Navient.

Can my loan be forgiven in the wake of the Corinthian Colleges settlement?

I attended Everest here In florida , computer science and technology . I was simply looking for a good school and to learn and grasp a degree . Now , after graduation I have not heard from them and the placement department is doing nothing more than trying to take credit for a job I had when I started this school . I am in debt with a degree that will get me no where and I have attempted going back to college. If I do I have to start all over meaning none of the 96 credits will transfer.. What a sorry group of colleges we got suckered in by ..... Now what do I do !!!!!

I would like to know if I can join the class action law suit. I have 17,000 debt from Everett college San Bernardino CA, for medical assistant. I was never hired in this field! Placement was of no assistance to me. This debt is a burden! I was looking forward to a promising career, this did not happen. Please help!!

So many promises were made of I went to the school and how my career would jump start...I was excited. I was promised that I would receive assistance with job placement. I was told that my college credits would be transferable; that was false. instead of a job, I was hit with a debt that I can't pay back.

Hello my name is Heidi Vella I went to Everest College in Reseda California in 2009 and I graduated which I had with honors and perfect attendance I was even ambassador of my class I drove from Lancaster California 2 Reseda California everyday and never missed a day I was never helped with getting a job and when I would ask for it all they would say was go online and look on monster or any of the other websites that are similar I worked real hard to follow my dream to have a career as a surgical tech they kept saying get certified it'll give you a step above the rest well I got certified and still no help all I got was big tuition payments and a big government loan and now I'm really frustrated I don't know what to do I thought I was doing the right thing in life and I guess not and I think people look at the word where did you graduate and you say Everest College and I think that automatically bands you because I've put hundreds of applications in everywhere and I've gotten nowhere so I'm wondering if I can get some help with this issue if I knew then what I know now I would definitely went somewhere else Chris from the LA Times had contacted me about 2014 asking me about the situation that I had with Everest College he wrote an article in the LA Times and he added me in a couple of the paragraphs in that newspaper and I'm wondering if I'm a part of any of the class action that is going on I sure hope I am thank you very much for your time

I went to Everest Institute in Pittsburgh from April 2004 til September 2006. I went for what I was told would be an Associates degree in Criminal Justice. I did all my terms plus my externship thinking that at graduation I would receive my Associates. No I received a diploma. After not being able to get a job or even have my credits transfer to another school without having to redo all my criminal classes. I never got help with the process of looking for a job after graduation they pretty much was like here take this piece of paper that you just paid $17,000 that will never help you in life and never once reached out to see how I was doing. Never returned phone calls nothing. I just recently decided to go to community college and while I was registering they asked to see if I could get my transcript to see if anything I took would transfer again nothing of my criminal classes transferred. I however talked to the registrar at the the school while I was there picking up my transcript. She said I was lucky to come when I did they were closing that site. Then she looked at my transcript and said how did you do Associate work and get a diploma she didn't even know that they did that. How is that even possible.I should at least been grandfathered into get my degree. I would like to see my loans forgiven for being fraudulently mislead into thinking I was going get a degree and didn't get it. Not even getting my loans forgiven I want them to pay for my loans. Sue them for the money they own me back for making me look stupid all these years. I thought I was the only one that got screwed over by them. I haven't even talked to anyone for school then to see if they got a job. It's not fair to now have this loan sitting over my head because they wanted to take my money. There I was a single pregnant teen all I wanted was to provide for my unborn child and they preyed on me like I was a mouse and they were an owl. Disgusting.

I wasn't fully trained to be a dental assistant for front office and back office, and I was not prepared during my interviews. They also placed me in a dental office that is known for not hiring interns, and the dentist was not willing to teach me anything front office related although I asked her. I recently found out a lot of dentists hire people who are not certified dental assistants. And yet I owe $20,000 for training I didn't receive.

My daughter went to Everest College in Reseda, CA, for Medical Assistant from 2013-2014. She was promised job placement and was placed in a job from July to October 2014. She was never told that it was going to be a temporary job. The employer kept telling her they don't know if she's going to be hired permanent. I had a feeling this was a game. Their job placement section hasn't even sent her on an interview. She's been online with outside agencies and has been more succesfull. We each have a $10,000 loan. Please let me know if there is any school loan debt relief or lawsuit we can be included in. Let me know.

I recently graduated from the paralegal studies program, Cum Lade (2013). I have been seeking employment ever since. No employers including non-legal field employers are taking my education seriously. I am being treated as if I do not have a degree at all and having to settle for entry level positions that have nothing to do with my major. The paralegal field is not remotely interested. I have been working with the career services provided by the school and they have been no help. It's been a year and I still have no employment in my field or any other, despite months of trying in my old residence of Asheville and one month of trying in a new city - Charlotte. I have a debt of $29,000 and no way to pay it back and seemingly no way of being gainfully employed. Please help.

I enrolled in the Medical Billing and Coding program at the Ontario, Ca. campus in 2012. I was misled regarding the amount of job opportunity and starting salary as well as being able to get a job from my extern site or shortly after. No one will hire without 2 years’ experience and/or bilingual speaking. Please help. I can't get a job in this field or pay the student loans. Me and my classmates paid about $18,000 for this class. I will have to go back to my original paperwork for the exact amount. About half was government loans and the other $9,000 is from Genesis Lending at a 13% interest rate.

I have been told on several occasions by mechanics that I apply for jobs with that I wasted money on my education. I now have way more debt than I can handle and have had to start borrowing money from my parents just to help cover my loan payments to avoid going late on payments. I now have $30,000 in debt and nothing to show for my education.

I have suffered more than I can honestly put into words. It has been six months since graduation, my loan payments are due and I am still unemployed. I have an 8 year old son who I barely see because my parents are retired & can't afford to keep giving me money. I have to pay child support & I am in serious jeopardy of losing my license for nonpayment. Still they continue to sugar coat employment status & hope I don't wise up. Help!

Months after graduation, i was unemployed and job placement did not help at all. When job placement department finally called me for an appointment with them, all they did was sign me up with monster.com and left me to do the job searching myself. Im very disappointed, thousands of dollars in debt just to sign up for monster.com, thats how i feel.
