Lisinopril Liver Damage

Lisinopril, also known as Zestril and Prinivil, is an ACE inhibitor used to control high blood pressure. In the past few years Lisinopril side effects have been linked to Lisinopril liver damage and Lisinopril liver failure. Both liver damage and liver failure are life-threatening and often fatal. Lisinopril lawyers are reviewing claims and looking into a Lisinopril lawsuit.

Lisinopril Liver Damage

lisinoprilhighbloodpressure Generic Lisinopril, often misspelled as linisiprol, linisopril or lisiniprol, is sold under the brand names Prinivil and Zestril. Lisinopril is used to control high blood pressure and treat congestive heart failure, and belongs to a class of drugs called angiotensin-converting-enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Lisinopril combined with hydrochlorothiazide, is marketed by a number of pharmaceutical companies to treat hypertension (high blood pressure). Hydrochlorothiazide is a water pill (thiazide diuretic) that helps prevent your body from absorbing too much salt, which can cause fluid retention. Recent findings in patients taking lisinopril indicate a risk for lisinopril liver damage or lisinopril liver failure.

Lisinopril and Liver Transplant

tylenolliverbiopsy Most complaints stem from people who were prescribed lisinopril combined with hydrochlorothiazide. Because most liver damage complaints have occurred within the last few years, it is speculated that there may be a generic formulary now marketed without clinical studies. Lisinopril was the third ACE inhibitor introduced to the market in the early 1990s.

Two recent cases have confirmed that lisinopril directly caused the destruction of the patient' liver and in each case it was nearly fatal: Both patients required liver transplants. Both Lisinopril users are young adults in their 30s with no prior history of liver problems and they both took Lisinopril for a relatively short time (one of the victims, a young and healthy mother, took it for 6 weeks). Their hospital and medical records and medical personnel attribute causation of liver destruction to Lisinopril.

According to a 1995 report by PubMED, chronic hepatitis and liver damage can be caused by Lisinopril.

Lisinopril Warnings

drugsideeffects To date, the lisinopril product labeling indicates that it may cause liver damage and not liver failure. ( Lisinopril does contain a black box warning which states that ACE inhibitor drugs that act directly on the renin-angiotensin system can cause injury and even death to a developing fetus when used during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy.)

According to one manufacturer, if the liver cannot process lisinopril, it is simply flushed out through the kidneys, but in some people the medication is being stored in the liver.

Although acute liver failure (ALF) mostly affects young people who are otherwise healthy, it can occur in people of all ages. A phD in pharmacology has confirmed that Lisinopril contains all the ingredients that makes it hazardous and it has the ability to destroy the liver in young adults. However, it is possible that the drug can destroy anyone's liver at any age.

ALF encompasses both fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) and subfulminant hepatic failure (also known as late-onset hepatic failure). FHF usually occurs within eight weeks of the onset of symptoms in a patient with a previously healthy liver, while subfulminant hepatic failure typically occurs in patients with liver disease for up to 26 weeks before the development of hepatic encephalopathy a worsening of brain functions that occurs when the liver is no longer able to remove toxic substances in the blood.

Lisinopril Liver Damage Symptoms

Lisinopril is just one of more than 900 drugs, toxins and herbs that can cause liver injury, making drug-induced hepatic injury the most common reason to withdraw an approved drug.

Signs of such liver damage include dark urine, fatigue, jaundice, nausea and stomach/abdominal pain. Read more: Lisinopril side effects for more information on Lisinopril side effects and precautions.

Lisinopril Lawsuits

Attorneys have been contacted by Lisinopril consumers nationwide reporting liver damage or failure and they are currently reviewing those medical records. If you have experienced Lisinopril liver damage or failure, you should seek legal help. Lisinopril claims allege that the manufacturer has designed and distributed a dangerous drug without appropriate testing and without giving all the warning signs to doctors and patients.

Lisinopril Suspected As Cause of Death

A negative impact on liver function is not amongst the more common Lisinopril side effects. Be that as it may, some patients taking the oft-prescribed treatment for high blood pressure have experienced Lisinopril liver damage, including a woman who posted to a blog in late 2010 that her (acute liver failure) was caused "by a blood pressure medicine called Lisinopril," Jennifer Roberts wrote in October of that year, by way of a post to the blog transplantcafe.com. "(Lisinopril) shut my liver down within six weeks." READ MORE

Gluten-Free, Lisinopril-Free?

Chances are, you know someone who is on a gluten-free diet to help treat digestive problems. This diet is fast rising in popularity, and at the same time, so is an increase in prescriptions for medications such as Lisinopril. But Lisinopril comes with serious side effects, including liver damage and digestive-tract problems, such as celiac disease and irritable bowel syndrome. It would be interesting to find out how many Lisinopril consumers believe they are wheat-intolerant and are on gluten-free diets… READ MORE

Many prescription drugs are as common as aspirin; it's no wonder that many consumers don't read warning labels or consider that a medication could be associated with side effects. Take Lisinopril, for instance. It is one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the US, and it also has the potential to harm a lot of people. READ MORE

My husband was taking lisinopril and hydrothyocholrizine for high blood pressure. He died on the operating table after being given anesthesia. The death certificate said perforated colon and reneal failure. Could lisinopril have caused this?

I started feeling awful...went months with no menstrual cycle but no one could figure out why. Started having pain in my joints and swelling in my left leg and ankle. Got a full panel and discovered my liver enzymes were elevated and my body was low in Vitamin D and B12. I kept getting sick and could not recover. My primary took me off my Vitamins and prescribed me an even higher dose of bp meds because my bp was going up even on 20 a day of Lisinopril...so she put me on 30. I got bad fast after that. My liver enzymes doubled in a week and kept on that trend. I found a new primary doctor who had me stop the bp meds and just gave me a water pill in its place. My pressure is not great but not awful...my enzymes are slowly decreasing (very slowly). I am tired a lot...on vitamins and b-12 shots which I am positive help but I am too exhausted to really notice. I have had an ultrasound and an mri...both showed an enlarged liver. Getting weekly blood draws to keep an eye on the enzymes to see that they continue to go down. Don't know if my liver is permanently damaged yet or not but I will never take Lisinopril again! This medicine should not be allowed. Doctors should monitor patients enzymes when they are given this. (and kidney function as well)

Add me to the list. My contact with Lisinopril came after suffering a worker's compensation injury that caused chronic pain. After several years my blood pressure had raised due to pain meds and chronic pain and I was prescribed Lisinol to lower blood pressure. A underlying nausea turned into full blown nausea with new and increasing vomiting. I was on Lisinopril for approximately 5 months all the while with no reaction, response or remedy from the doctor. All refused to recognize the condition as a result of taking the Lisinopril. I lost over 40 pounds after taking Lisinopril. The day after I stopped taking it my appetite was back and all I did was eat. Like to say it's a happy ending but I now have cysts in my liver, chronic liver pain, chronic nausea, continued weight loss, loss of appetite and great fatigue. The medication is at fault but these doctors who refuse to admit drugs they prescribe can hurt us, and doctors who are more concerned with tge insurance companies bottom line than the patients rights and health. Good Luck to you all.

I was taking Lisinopril for some years and I had swelling of my legs , hands and throat . Even went to emergency room and they gave me meds , shots and never said that it was a allergic reaction . My throat swell up a couple times where as to I couldn't swallow. I knew when it was about to happen because my throat would get sore first then my uvula would swell up. I did not know what was happening I would not go to sleep I was scared that it would get worse or I would choke . This happened to me a couple times I told my Dr they did not know either at the time . Finally from this happening before I knew when I got a sore throat I felt it happening really rapidly then before . I went to emergency this time my blood pressure was 200 something over 100 something . They put me into the shock room my face began to swell very fast . The doctor called the dr down from intensive care by the time he got down to me I was whispering he was o close to my face so he could hear me talk. He asked me if this has happened before I told him yes a couple times . But this time was very different and faster. Last thing I remember is the doctors and nurse running me down the hall . I passed out I woke up in icu with a trach in my throat !!!!! I was in the hospital for weeks The doctor was retiring He saved my life he worked on me for an hour and a half …. I am blessed LISINOPRIL ALMOST ENDED MY LIFE!!!! I do not have the trach anymore . My voice and my breathing I struggle with and I have anxiety attacks sometimes because I am scared to sleep

One day out of the blue I had such an allergic reaction that caused me to swell all over my body including my face and throat. My tongue had big knots all over it. My throat begin sealed up oxygen was low. I made to the emergency room just in time where they admitted me I stayed in there for almost a week. I never been so sick and scared in my life part of the reason was I didn't know what was going on with me. I didn't know whether I would live or die. Even when I got released I couldn't hardly see vision was real blurry so I was panicking real bad. I was normal then on July 7, my life changed and it was caused by Lisinopril I been taking for 11 years. No one never told me how much damage it did to my organs.

The Lisinopril almost killed me I was short of breath, my tongue was swollen and the doctors thought I was having a heart attack. I had to be transferred from one hospital to the other. It had my whole face swollen. This is a terrible medication for high blood pressure. I would like to file a law suit against the company for knowing the damages it causes and yet it is still on the market.

My husband was diagnosed several years ago with emphysema. He was able to quit smoking and we stayed on top of any illness. He has been hospitalized with pneumonia every year. His breathing has been getting worse but oxygen levels stay in the 97 to 98 range except when he's in hospital. For a year now he has been passing out. It is only for 1 to 3 minutes and was only when he would start coughing. The doctor changed his medications around but he passes out when breathing a bit hard. Also his feet swell up and are numb all the time. He then started using a cane. i searched for alternative treatment before i was introduced to Solution Health Herbal Clinic by a friend here in the UK, she told me this clinic have successful herbal treatment to Emphysema and other lungs diseases. I spoke to few people who used the treatment here in UK and they all gave a positive response, so i immediately purchased the Emphysema herbal formula for my husband and he commenced usage, its totally unexplainable how all the symptoms totally disappeared, his cough was gone and he no longer experience shortness of breath(dyspnea), contact then at their E-mail info@solutionhealthherbalclinic.com Or visit their website www.solutionhealthherbalclinic.com Herbs are truly gift from God

I had taken Lisinopril and use to cough all the time while serving on the military. I was not aware at the time this was one if the side effects, and the military to my knowledge was not aware. I started on lisinopril about 2009. In 2010 my doctor said my liver enzymes was high and set me up with a specialist. The specialist wasn't worried said it was fatty liver which is now considered nash because it is unrelated to alcohol. This past year my doctor seemed to be concerned because the numbers have elevated some more. I joined a study on nash, did the liver biopsy and all and found out I am in stage 3 of nash. I'm truly considering asking the doctor to switch my blood pressure medication and see what the results will be.

Have only been on lisinopril for a few weeks and the side effects are the worst - faint feeling, muscle & joint pain (heat or cold do not take care of) and almost in tears, profuse sweating shortly after taking 10mg dose. When I asked Dr. side effects he said, "The only side effect that might occur is the dry cough". Upon researching this drug I find out there are significant side effects. Done taking this and will be looking for a new doctor.

I almost died. I was in ICU for 7 days. My face, lips, tongue and throat was swollen. My air way closing. Then my organs begin to fell. The doctors told my family if I did get pneumonia she should recover. But sad to say I did get pneumonia. Thanks to the man above I recovered. But I was left with bills that I can't afford to pay back and hurt about what I just went through.

On Lisinopril x6 months. Had absolutely clean and negative chest x-ray before starting it. 6 months later had repeat chest x-ray and it showed scar tissue, requiring CT chest. CT agreed with lung scar tissue. My coughing was so disruptive and mucous-producing I could not go to movies or church. A box of tissues every other day.

Lisinopril almost caused my death due to blocked airway. I was on 40 milligrams per day for 8 years. I noticed a constant cough but being a smoker at that time, attributed it to a smoking reaction. One evening I stepped out of the shower fighting to breathe. I woke up 4 days later in intensive care due to a blocked airway. I was wrongly diagnosed with acid reflux disease. In releasing me they upped my lisinipril dose to 80 milligrams per day. I was an invalid. Coughing heavily and couldn't sleep lying down. My husband didn't believe the diagnosis and resrarched. What he found was that there was other similar incidents like mine caused by lisinipril and he presented his findings to our family physician. She acknowledged the possibility and we stopped lisinipril. My recovery was almost instant. People need to know these dangers.

Joint comminsion 8 that 150/90 is normal for ppl. Over 60..it is the pulse pressure that is important..150-90 is 40..look up what Mayo clinic has to ssy about pulse pressure. My dr. Has a poo-poo face that has been discoraging to me. I went on the " ideal protien" diet. I am losing weight now and blood pressure is much better.

Recently diagnosed with Sarcoidosis (autoimmune disease) which can be drug induced/ hereditary or toxins exposure. I compared the symptoms of Sarcoidosis to the side effects of Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide, to my surprise the comparisons are related. So, my question is did the manufactures and FDA knowingly and willingly create and approve a man made (autoimmune disease) pill/pills that is mass distributed with malicious intent? Now stuck with a life threatening, incurable disease thanks to whom!

ooo boy, something had me to search simply lisinopril liver damage due to suddenly noticing a huge varicose vein calf area-asian medicine claim LIVER PROBLEM when having varicosity--been "on" lisinopril 6 years now-blood pressure finally came down to 156/90-LOL but had been running 180/110 upwards-reading the side effects, nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue ,balance problems etc are exactly what has happened-also 4th stage chronic renal failure--mygawd--WHAT NOW to replace this crap ? am not overweight, nonsmoker,no alchohol due to being on this medication--so what the hell caused my blood pressure to spike like it did 6 years ago ? TODAY "they" don't search for the cause, they only treat the symptoms. GOOD LUCK to all going thru this.

Guess I am not alone! I had been prescribed Lisinopril and did take it for 6 months, until I could no longer take the side effects. . I was convinced of my negative findings and decided to address my issues with the doctor, I had an appointment yesterday and she allowed me to quit the 2.5 mg daily. The next step is a mobile blood pressure cuff, which I will begin on November 23rd. One thing I have learned over the years is that 'my' system is so very sensitive to many drugs. They are difficult to tolerate. I do not want to admonish the doctor as they are doing what they know a/o instructed to do. I have 'never' felt good on this drug. Labored breathing at times, coughing fits that would follow me through to the 11th hour and have me up-chucking saliva/mucus in a plastic bag, over the side of the road, on my way home from work. Achy joints, and swelling around those joints, exacerbated insomnia, some hair loss, exacerbated greys, , and a leathery texture to my normally oily-type skin and exacerbated weight gain. I also noticed that had developed grey/darkish circles under my eyes, and a general feeling of not being well. My adrenaline which normally would kick- start my day, was no longer. I do not have a sedentary job by any means, and the daily, general stressors that would permeate my being, I noticed were basically suppressed. Probably the same sensation when one is taking an anti-depressant or something of the like. The body's general and normal reaction is suppressed. Not sure what happens next. I would like to end all of this on a good note. I will monitor my own blood pressure at home intermittently, start eating better, sleeping more, and contemplate focusing on the good in life. Drugs for me, do not fare me well. So, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road....I'm goin' back to my plow.....Wish me luck!

On July 17, 2017, I began losing my voice at work. Then my throat started swelling. I was rushed to a nearby hospital. I awoke at another hospital 2 days later in ICU. My throat had nearly swollen shut, and they barely saved me. Was angiogram caused by Lisinopril. I was told to go home and throw the RX in the trash.

Lisinopril is in a class of medications called angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, or ACE inhibitors. It works by widening blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more smoothly and lets the heart function more efficiently. By lowering blood pressure, lisinopril also helps reduce the risk for stroke and heart attack. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) first approved lisinopril in 1987. The drug company Merck developed lisinopril under the brand name Prinivil. In 2002, the FDA approved generic lisinopril. Oh my gosh I am so glad I started researching this drug! Im 62 and been on lisinopril hctz 20/12.5 once a day, and lisinopril 20 once a day, also Metoprolol 50 twice a day since 2012. My blood pressure at the time I was prescribed this drug was in stroke mode, and last year I made the decision to change my diet and lost 63 lbs which I was praying would lower my BP enough to be taken off BP meds. It did lower it, but was still slightly high so I was taken off the 20 mg lisinopril, and they cut the lisinopril hctz to half the dose. I still take the Metoprolol. I have had a bad back for years, and a bum knee, but in the years since I was put on these , I can barely walk, have joint pain that is unbearable, just found out i have a cataract just starting to develop on my left eye, and just generally feel crappy. If I dont take the hctz however, my ankles swell, but after reading all these testimonies, Im not touching another piece of that crap! Ive also been diagnosed with AFib which I know wonder if these drugs were the culprit since my heart valves checked out fine. I think I need a new Doc!

I’ve been taking lisinopril for several years. It was prescribed with hydrochlorothiazide (hcl). It controlled my blood pressure, but I just found out that it has put me in stage 4 renal failure. I’ve had to deal with that annoying cough, but had no idea it was slowly killing me. I’m 47 years old and a single father. My new doctor tells me that my health is VERY bad and he quickly changed my blood pressure medication and added cholesterol med and vitamin D. If there’s a lawsuit, I definitely want to be notified.

A couple of years ago ago I discovered it was the medications by researching and reading a lot. I found an article written by a doctor saying it's the blood pressure medication. Everytime I stopped takong a blood pressure medicine the symptoms would go away. I need help still taking the one pill I can tolerate the most, because I need the medication.

I had a similar reaction, 2 days after starting lisinopril I had severe pain in my abdomen. Was healthy as I had an annual checkup earlier that week, the doc just thought I should start lisinopril for borderline hypertension. Ended up in ER with enlarged liver, and fluid around spleen, my system was shutting down. They couldn't figure out what was wrong, even though I clearly stated I had just started a new medication. 7 weeks later, several invasive tests, 2 ER trips (never been to ER prior to this at 45 years old) 13 lb weight loss, a provider finally said he felt it could be the medication. Went off and symptoms disappeared. But was left with intestinal metaplasia and liver damage. This was in 2011. Still have some problems due to the damage caused by this awful drug!

July 20th 2018
I was taking Lisinopril for several years.

Last October 2017...My left hand started to tremor...A few weeks later my right hand started to tremor....
A week later my left leg started to tremor...
Then another few weeks passed and my right leg and face were
tremoring. My tongue as well.

My arms were moving around like a band conductor in a concert.
My body would move to the beat of music. If water was dripping from the faucet in the shower...My hands would pick up the beat.

I was tested for Huntington's disease because I couldn't quit moving. Two Neurologists led me to believe I was converting stress into movement I was almost positive that was a load of crap and was very angry. So I thought what does it matter anymore...I might as well die of high blood pressure and a stoke.... if I'm going to be moving all over the place the rest of my life. My blood pressure goes up to 245 Systolic...to over 119 Diastolic.

After several days without my medication my mom said you aren't moving so much anymore. I told her I was so pissed off that I quit taking my medication. She told me I needed to check my medication.

Once everything stopped moving...I tried these drugs separately to see the results.
It turns out Lisinopril kicked the movements right back into gear. Several days later I tried Carvedilol again by itself as well.

All kinds of movement.
These drugs were developed from the (Brazilian Pit Vipers Venom. Bothrops Jararaca).
If you have wild uncontrollable movements and you are taking these drugs...You better start looking at the drug as an allergic reaction.
That's how they listed me.

I never imagined the medication for HBP would reduce my over all health condition. THIS IS A SHAME. Thank you for letting me voice this.

I was placed on Lisinopril several years ago now, after always having a cough, the only other side effect I had was muscle spasm throughout my body. Although at the time, I was being tested for everything else. This was not posted as a side effect of the drug. 3 years later and almost every test done, it was learned that my left kidney stopped functioning. I now had renal failure and congestive heart failure and over 7 bouts of pulmonary flash edema. I'm sill alive but in very poor health now. Lisinopril is now listed as an allergy, but I'm still searching for attorney that will take this case.

I took this RX for 7 years. Four years ago I went in to have an ovary removed. I had an allergic reaction to lisinopril. I went into Afa lactic shock and died twice. My blood pressure and diabetes got much worse from the shock and trauma that my body experienced.

I have complained over 3 years of not feeling right,

I have had a cough, body wide joint pain (tested for everything) with no reasons found. I suffered throat swelling and almost chocked to death trying to swallow a small piece of food, coffee didn't even go down right, swelling in my ears,

Saturday following this past Thanksgiving I ended up in the ER
with areas swollen on my face that hurt REAL BAD, my ear was folded over. It was an allergic reaction to lisinopril, I was put on another type of BP medication. 2+ months cough still there, The growths are finally going away (leaving me with some hard spots)

Have been taking Lisinopril since May 2017. Had gout twice, severe joint pain, pain in back, leg cramps, neck, headaches, nausea, had pulmonary saddle embolism in 2015 and large blood clots again in my lungs in Dec. 2016, the continuing coughing from Lisinopril is effecting my lungs. Since yesterday I am experiencing a debilitating pain in my liver, very swollen area, I feel like a band is pulled very tightly around my waist, pain radiating to the sides and lower back, I can't take much of this pain anymore!! I have no energy left!! The doctor who put me on Eliquis for the blood clots, told me to go of the Lisinopril immediately, the doctor who put me on Lisinopril is not even returning my calls :-(

I had been taking Lisinopril for years then on February 7th 2017 I went to the emergency room with severe swelling of my tongue and throat (angioadema) they did a traceostomy on me and kept me in a medically induced coma for 2 days and was able to leave the hospital after 7 days. Now I have some difficulty with my memory.

I am so angry at this drug and doctors because no one told me what this drug could do to me! Have been taking this drug for almost 2 years and experienced weight loss ,muscle pain , stomach pain, blurred vision, vomiting, headaches, and that was over the course of the 2 Years! As of 11/1/17 I have been to the ER twice in one week, hospitalized the second time due to rashes that popped up over my body, my left eye swelled ,then the right eye, then the breathing started to get shallow! Benadryl didn't help, it slowed it down but didn't stop the severe itchying! After the second visit to ER I was asked if I had taken this drug and to stop taking it immediately!!! I am no longer taking it , but now who knows what other problems may arise! Not to mention I am still having blurred vision, stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, extreme muscle pain ,tiredness to the point where I'm almost bed bound! I can't play with my dogs or even walk with them and they don't understand why! That is the most hurtful thing to me! Someone please take this drug off the market and stop slowly taking people's lives!! And I'm telling my family and anyone else that might be taking this drug PLEASE STOP IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

August 5th 2017 1:30 am on lisinopril for over 20 years, complaining to Dr's about severe muscle and joint pain for decades. developed severe reaction in the early morning hrs of 8/5/17. rushed by ambulance to the emergency room and then to ic unit for the remainder of the day. I am lucky not to have been at our cabin in Maine, there, I was dead in a matter of 20 minits. My mother was on Lisinopril a few years ago with severe respiratory problems, finally after a year of being really sick, they took here off this deadly drug. My heart goes out to all that have lost loved ones, I was lucky. I think of the days when the Dr. came to my home when I was a young boy, and cared about his patients. Now....he is controlled by politicians, insurance lobbyist's, drug manufacturer's, lets not forget their portfolios. There is only one issue here!! GREED
My sister was on lisinopril as of late august and asked her Dr to take her off based upon what happened to us.

This is an inexpensive drug with the most costly consequences.
Please any one who reads this consider all your options.I have numerous other side effects but only listed the most severe.I pray you all find healing from H.B.P. but this pill is killing people slowly & painfully.

I have been on lisinopril for roughly two months, 20 mg twice a day. Within a week or so I developed a horrible cough that keeps me awake at night and interferes with daily interactions, such as grocery shopping etc. I have a terribly runny nose, joint pain, and occasional stomach pain. I also was taking a hydrochlorathiazide water pill once daily. I have stopped taking both in the last two weeks and coughing seems to have abated a bit. I don't know why anyone would prescribe this drug, or take it with so many having the same symptoms.

I took lisinopril for about a week in 2014 and my throat swelled almost shut and I went to the ER. I was rushed to the back and they wanted to intubate me but I asked for them to wait. I was admitted for 3-4 days and monitored and tested. My doctor left the hospital shortly after my incident. How long must this go on before this company gets fined or sued?

DO NOT take this crap! I developed a chronic cough, dry and persistent, so bad that I could not sleep at night, let alone stop coughing during the day. I was completely worn down from constant coughing. WHY would any doctor (Dr. Amy Robinson, DE) prescribe this stuff when there are horrible known side effects? Cha 'ching, that's why! I was told by 3 doctors that it was the Linisipril. I was also told it could take up to 6 months to stop the coughing. Please, do not take Linisipril.

My loving Mother has been taking Lisinopril for 7 years, and had been coughing for over a year. started coughing day and night, the night of April 5th she was waking up gasping for air. after I ask if she was alright? and ask if she could breath she said yes!..so thought nothing of it. on the 6th of April at 10:56 a.m my loving mother looked at me and said she couldn't catch her breath, as I looked her in the face, I could tell something was not right. she began to slur her words :(.. started CPR and mouth to mouth, until EMTs arrived, my mothers lungs would not respond, as they worked on her :( and when we got to hospital they had put her on life support, and we only got to be with my loving mother until 8:45 p.m. as she had passed in ICU :(.. my heart is shattered, that these Meds are killing our loved ones.

I have been taking Lisinpril for over 7 yrs. when i first started taking it, i had a weight loss of 20lbs in 45 days. i have always had this cough, for unexplained reasons. then my face and lips started to swell up for no reason at all. this has happened about six times during this 7 year period. i thought that i was using the wrong aftershave, lotion, even stop shaving at all. still every few months my face would swell up. Then i had to quit my job because of fatigue and inflammation levels. my blood count all three dropped into the danger area and the VA or My Tricare Doctor couldn't tell me why. In march of this year my face began to swell and i couldn't breath. i went to the ER. and the Doctor look at my Medication history and ordered me to stop taking Lisinpril. She said that this was the root of all my Medical Issues.

I WAS TALKING WITH A FRIEND ONE DAY AND I WAS TELLING HER ABOUT THE PERSISTENT COUGH I HAD AND SHE ASKED ME WHAT KIND OF BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICATION ARE YOU TAKING I TOLD HER LISINOPRIL SHE SAID SHE WAS TAKING THE SAME MEDICATION AND SHE HAD THAT SAME PERSISTENT COUGH, AND HER DOCTOR TOOK HER OFF THAT MEDICATION. WHEN I WENT BACK TO MY DOCTOR AND TOLD HIM I HAD A PERSISTENT COUGH THAT WOULD NOT GO AWAY HE TOLD ME IT COULD BE MY BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE AND HE IMMEDIATELY CHANGED MY MEDICATION. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED UP THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THE MEDICATION I FOUND OUT THAT NOT ONLY WAS THAT A SIDE EFFECT BUT IT ALSO CAUSE CATARACTS SO GUESS WHAT I HAVE TO HAVE CATARACT SURGERY IN A COUPLE OF MONTHS. MY HUSBAND WAS ON THIS SAME MEDICATION AND HE HAD CATARACT SURGERY 2 YEARS AGO. I've never had an allergic reaction to anything. but i started selling up from the stomach down. went to the hospital a few times and they thought it was excess water due to chf. went again and they diagnosed it as cellulitis... i was given meds that didn't help. eventually went to a dermatologist and he said that lisinopril can cause a major swelling issue called angioedema. i have horrible swelling through my legs ankles feet and i got the lucky draw of having swelling in the groin area... cost me my job recently, very much immobilized, can't really do much. is there anything i can do about this?

This was a scary experience for me, especially the fact that I'm also diabetic. This drug should be taken off the market!!!

I had began taking Lisinopril in October 2013. At first I noticed that I was constantly dry-mouth and had dry coughs. The coughing had gotten so bad that I interfered with my job of talking to customers. After discovering that Lisinopril was causing my coughs, I stopped taking them. I did on my own. i choose to diet and exercise to lower my blood pressure, which worked better than Lisinopril. As of today, December 2016, I still have those coughs that were initiated by Lisinopril. I cough so till I get strangled. I cough with phlegm many times. Also, I have chronic bronchitis and asthma due to taking Lisinopril. I have never in my life had any kind of respiratory trouble until I had taken Lisinopril. For a long time I could not walk 500 feet without huffing and puffing as if I had been running. I was concerned and wandering what was wrong with me. I had a horrible wheezing and breathing problems that came from having untreated bronchitis. I now have to use an inhaler, which make my blood pressure go up. I hate the day that my doctor prescribed me with Lisinopril. I have cough so much over the years that my voice is deeper and unpleasant. I have breathing problems due to this medicine. They should take it off the market if it causes all the problems that are listed.

I have been on Lisinopril for about 15 years. Since than, I have had many side effects. Coughing, sensuous Sinus problems. To where I thought I has cancer. 3 MRI's . Each telling me that nothing was wrong. I could not hear, taste smell. And the pain in my neck was something I've had to just live with. No one ever told me it was the Lisinopril. So, I have continued to take it. I finally decided to check into what it does. It was me, myself that told my doctor to take me off of it. Now with my last checkup. I find out my kidneys are failing. I go back in for another blood test to check my levels again. Why wasn't I ever told about what this was doing to me. Where do I go from here? Please help.

And I had two I.V.s in me and was threatening too put a breathing tube in me, The culprit was lisinopril, I have a horrible cough, and I horrible pain in my joints all over my body I hurt for days at a time after that incident I demand that they change my medicine, but the damage is already done from the lisinopril, I suffered horrible migraine headaches, after I got on line and researched about lisinopril I was just mortified after seeing what others had been going through, and it doesn't even help lower your blood pressure at all, we need a lawyer too fight and get justice for us please I hope someone will be the voice that we need and stand up and fight for us no one shouldn't have too die too get justice. I have been using Lisinopril for over 20 yrs with no reaction from it. In September 2016 my lip started to swell and then it swelled so big I had to go to the emergency room. When I walked up to the counter I was asked, "what brings you here" .
I told the young lady that my lip was swelling and I did not know why. She asked me if I was taking Lisinopril and I told her yes. She said that I was having a reaction from taking Lisinopril and stop taking it. She also told me that I should let my doctor know what was happening and to take another medicine for my high-bloodpressure. I had to stay in the hospital for several hours so that I could be monitored because they though my thought and tongue would swell up.

Went to the hospital last night for swelling in my lips. Never in a million years would I think of my blood pressure medication causing this. The doctor at the hospital took one look at me and asked if I took Lisinopril. He automatically knew that it was causing the swelling. Glad that he knew about this, because I had no idea what was going on. The past year or so I have been have foot and leg cramps. The cramps would wake me up in the middle of the night and it was almost impossible to get rid of them. I did find something for leg cramps that seems to be working for me. Dry cough everyday to the point that I think I might throw up. I will be in contact with my doctor soon to have blood work done, to check my liver and kidneys.

I have no pain. I hope this medicine hasn't damaged my liver but I believe it has. I am waiting for a liver blood test to come back. I have never been much of a drinker and I have barely even taken so much of an aspirin most of my life. I will be furious if this medication has destroyed one of my vital organs and I will surely pursue a lawsuit. if you plan a class action, please include me and I will share test results in writing.

I am so damn furious that this medication Lisinopril has been known to cause all of these problems and to learn only today about a class action lawsuit againist the pharmacutical company that makes it.My damn sorry ass doctor prescribed this medication to me knowing that I already have chronic kidney failure due to having been prescribed hydrochlorothiazide by a prior doctor. I have been complaining now for a solid year that under my right rib cage I sometimes get these awful sharp jabbing pains. They feel like muscle spasms and I also feel the pain rotate in my back.To no avail the doctors and PA's I have been seeing have dismissed my concerns.I would GLADLY find another doctor. But the problem with that is that I am on city contract. Which is worse than medicaid. Right side under rib cage.HMM--Correct me if I am wrong someone please. But isn't this where the liver, spleen, pancreas are located ? What about the gallbladder too and bile duct? Well now I am demanding an appointment to be seen asap by an MD. Then I am going to ask why their facility is prescribing this medication when there is a class action lawsuit againist the manufacturer. Then I am going to ask the MD why in the hell her PA would prescribe me this medication knowing all of my many health issues I already have in the first damn place. I do NOT have a thyroid had a TT in 2007.I for that very reason do NOT metabolize medication normally because I am missing a vital organ that most people still walk around with.I swear that my liver is enlarged and this RX is why I too landed in the ER last summer with a 1.5 level of potassium in my body and they rushed around to hook me up to an IV of potassium before I stroked out or had a massive heart attack at the ripe age of 44.Yeah,The ER doctor was freaking out when my labs came back and my potassium was so dangerously low.I had a crash cart next to my door and he told me I was lucky that I didn't have a stroke or heart attack driving myself to the ER.They kept me overnight and baker acted me. Because the low potassium had me thinking suicidal thoughts. YES! Low potassium can make someone suicidal the ER doctor told me this.I also continuously complain to my doctors about other muscle spasms,a chronic tickle in my throat , and a aggrevating cough that at times makes me gag.I swear to the good lord. If I have liver failure now too. After all the other health issues I have. I am going to raise bloody hell.I WILL be a part of this class action lawsuit and I will sue my doctors for dismissing my concerns.

July 6,2016, I began taking lisinopril, at the advice of my friend, I took it at night. At 77 years old, only taking thyroid medication , some vitamin D and calcium, I was happy, alert, active, raising my grandson who is 17, leading him to become an EAGLE SCOUT at 15, teaching him excellent study habits proven by his academic standing, being on the HONOR ROLL and the National History Honor Society. Then my bloodwork said I had Stage 2 kidney disease and then stage 3. My M.D. put me on lisinopril. On July 27th, I stopped taking this, in my mind "POISON" During those 21 days I coughed more than I ever did in my 77 years of life, I had blurry vision, strange headaches, I never suffered from headaches, I still have memory issues, lack of energy, dizziness, pain in my foot, problems swollowing, still have phlem and some coughing, some confusion, I just feel terrible. I did not have high blood pressure or am not diabetic. I experienced foot and leg cramps. I have a job to complete to get my Grandson through his senior year and off to college, I don't even know what I should do and unlike me, I can.t seem to motivate myself to jump out there and ask questions. In the 1970's I ran from hospital to hospital Allentown, Bethlehem, Philadelphia, New York and The National Institute of Health searching for answers to my daughters problems which no one saw but me, THE STAGE MOTHER, I know what I saw, she passed away in 1976, Nieman-Pick Disease, No one believed me then so please take this seriously, this medicine has ruined my life as I knew it. I strongly suggest anyone about to start this medication be given ALL the FACTS and DANGERS

In 2014, 4 days after going to the ER with discomfort. I was told that it was a digestive issue-drank a milky substance-told to take 3 days off. 4 days later, my heart fluttered, went into AFib and I had a heart attack and died. Drs. "couldn't believe" that I was alive. I thank the Lord. The cardiologist told that my potassium level was too low and was the cause of the attack. The week prior to the attack, I had begun a prescription of hydrochlorothiazide. This diuretic wiped out my potassium. I should have been supplementing it, I was told. After the attack, I took Lisinopril for about 2 wks and coughed every night. My voice changed. I was also given Xarelto for about a little over a week and began to have abdominal pain and burgundy colored urine. Attorneys in SC seem to be afraid to address this lack of medical professionalism. They told me I had to search for medical experts to prove the ER or my dr. negligent. I hesitated to take the BP meds in the first place and look what happened when I did. Ask questions, do research, make notes, before/when taking medication. Your life matters.

I was on Lisinopril for blood pressure. I developed a persistant cough. It kept me up and night and I carried throat lozenges with me everywhere. It took a specialist to tell me it was the drug lisinopril was the problem. I am a vocalist and could not sing. Since coming off this drug the symptoms have lessened but I still have a scratchy throat. Is there a class action lawsuit over the effects of this drug. It caused me a great deal of suffering.

I am diabetic and was prescribed lisinopril 2.5 to protect my kidneys. I finished my 90 day supply. During the 90 days I had a cough that kept getting worse. I COULDN'T SLEEP, MAKE BUSINESS PHONE CALLS, EXCERCISE. The cough was terrible and made me miserable. Things got worse when I developed a rash, (Intertrigo) redness, burning, and itching in the skin folds. These areas produce a musty smell which could not be washed away with 3 to 4 washings a day. This resulted in me turning into a recluse. I took myself off of LISINOPRIL.
Three weeks have passed and the cough is lessening and the rash is slowly going away. Maybe in a couple of weeks, I will get my life back.

This past March, I went to my GYN for my annual check up. I told him that I had been experiencing stomach pain, nausea, weight loss and vomiting. He ordered blood work, which came back abnormal. It showed a high level of liver enzymes.

He referred me to an internist who did two separated blood tests. They both showed high liver enzymes as well. He then referred me to an gastro doctor. He ran blood work, which hasn't come back yet, but I'm sure that it will show the same thing.

I've always exercised and had a relatively healthy diet. I've never smoked and hardly drink, except an occasional glass of wine. To have all of this happen to my liver and not know the cause has been very hard on me- physically and emotionally.

I'm glad I came across this website. I hope that the lawyers can make these pharmaceutical companies pay for all of the pain/suffering that they've caused everyone. If I had known that Lisinopril could cause liver damage, I would've NEVER taken it!

I have not have liver problems; however, I have been hospitalized and put on a heart monitor due to dangerously high potassium levels last year. My level this week was again dangerously high. I have now been taken off this medication as it is suspected to be the cause.
I have had dizziness, headaches, and memory issues. It sounds like this stuff may be the cause of those too.

Omy I thought I was going crazy. I've been on this drug for six months. I don't have insurance so I rarely see my doc. Lately my hands feet have been swelling today my face swelled I have had a dry cough my legs no energy. I've been feeling nauseous for awhile now. I had no ideal until I was in the ER and the doc told me I was allergic to this med. Now reading this I wonder if my liver is effected

I have been on Lisinopril for the past 2 years and within that time as I am today, experiencing strong continuous coughing that has me choking and unable to sleep at night. Informed my doctor about the horrible coughing and white substance that comes up, she informed it was acid reflux and wanted to describe an additional bill...which I refused. I have experience several cases of my throat closing where I had to gasp to breathe. I've also experience extreme cramping in my legs, memory problems and swelling

Been on lisinipril 1 month and have not got a decent sleep since and I'm tired so I sleep all the time but restlessly. Seems like I'm depressed. Had the cough for a few days and again when I was going to stop the med. Have the leg cramps all the time. Screwed up my relationship because of the agitation from the med and the depression it's causing. Read all about the side effects and the fact it's made from viper venom. I don't want kidney damage or skin problems like my aunt got. She got serious skin problems from ace inhibitor. Not sure which one but as soon as she stopped it started getting better. My blood pressure was better than perfect on the med but it wasn't that bad prior. I'll work with my diet because this stuff is starting to cause itching and hives as well. Maybe I'll try a water pill only.

I was taking Lisinopril in 2013 and after taking it for 6 months, I came out of a major surgery and when I woke up it felt like my throat had closed up. After a few minutes I was fine. Then while in my room sitting up talking to the nurse it felt like my throat closed up again. Finally they all played it off as an asthma attack. Then I started throwing up every day. 7 weeks after my surgery I started having chest pains numbness in my arms and legs. Test after test was done which all came back negative. Was put on a heart monitor for 30 days, started having dizziness, still constant numbness in arms and legs and still throwing up every single day. I finally got so tired of it that I told my doctor that I thought it was the Lisinopril and demanded to be taken off of it. So the doctor puts me on another medication that was similar to Lisinopril (can't remember name). Took this medication for 3 days, still the same thing as with the Lisinopril. I again returned to my doctor and told him that I can't take this new medication either, he put me on a simple water pill and the day I started taking the water pill, the numbness in arms and legs are basically gone, no more chest pain, no more dizziness and the daily throwing up stopped.

I have been using Lisinopril for 20 years, never had the associated cough but when I had infections my throat would close if I coughed or cleared my throat but recently when the dosage was increased (I am 65) my throat closed more frequently and more severely. That is completely closed (larynx too I believe) so no air passed but within a few minutes it gradually returned to normal. Terrifying to wonder if you will ever breathe again! All doctors (except the last) said 'no' it could not be the Lisinopril. I stopped the medication myself and got a doctor to prescribe something else. I am now on zero medication but the problem has not yet cleared... I am hoping! I will write again if I live through this. (One doctor even started to gesture large and small with her fingers and told me I had a large throat so it could not be happening!!!)

I am a 76 year old woman who went from being active to bedridden because of Lisinopril. My doctor put me on this drug about five or six year s ago and I've had nothing but one health issue after another ever since. I told my dr. my hair started falling out. She said,'Oh,you have more hair than the rest of us put together'. Then I told her I couldn't lift my arms. She pulled my arm up over my head and said,'yes you can'. Then I told her I was getting weaker. She said,'it's post polio syndrome', because I had polio in 1945. My throat started swelling and that made breathing and swallowing difficult. I thought it was because of 'post polio symdrome' like she said. ThenI started having excessive amounts of thick, white phlegm in my throat which would get in my windpipe while I was sleeping and I almost choked to death trying to get it out. This got to be a nightly occurance until I was scared to go to sleep at night. I'm so short of breath I'm panting after taking a few steps. I have back pain so severe I can only stand for eight minutes.Yes,I timed it. My tongue is swollen and I lisp when I talk. I had a perfect memory but now I constantly forget the simplest things. The ringing in my ears is so loud I have diddiculty hearing. All of these symptoms began after I started taking Lisinopril but I never associated them with the drug because of what my doctor said. Finally, about three weeks ago my daughter said her friend started having the thick phlegm and she had began taking Lisinopril. Her doctor changed her to another drug. I looked online for side effects of Lisinopril, and I had almost all of them. My kids were getting ready to put me in a nursing home!!! I immediately stopped taking the drug. It's been three weeks and the phlegm has stopped so I'm able to sleep at night,my throat swelling has gone down. I still feel weak because I've been bedridden for years now. Lisinopril has totally destroyed my health!!!! I read somewhere it's made from Brazilian snake venom!!

For me everything started after a shot of depo provera after my third kid, I was already 40 years ago, now 8 years later I somehow understand what happened, my bp went up and the doctor put me on lisinopril, I don't remember the order, but, I was prescribed cetirizine for allergies, that I took for over a year, (when I stop it, I went through hell) I also was given beta blockers for anxiety, after a while I suspected that all of my illnesses were related to the medicines I was taking and stop them all, it's been over a year and now I am healthy, no allergies, normal bs and bp, I still have anxiety but I am working on that, I try not to take anything even natural supplements for a long time, I have not seen my doctor for over a year, I don't think they do it on purpose, I just think they don't really know always what are they doing, they talk to you for no more than 10 minutes and prescribe anything, at least for me everything had been related to what the doctors have given me, my husband is taking lisinopril too and he goes to the doctor all the time, they say he has liver damage already.

I am white male. 60 years old. 5'10' 175#.
I have been on Lisinopril since 2008. In September 2010 I had 4 stents put in after heart attack. I went from 215# to 175# in about 6 months. i regularly walk 3 to 5 miles a day.
August 2015 I developed "ACE Cough" that was relentless. Went to doctor"s". They could not figure it out. I was anemic RBC was 12.0 and dropping. Had a colostomy exam and they found only a 3mm non cancerous polyp and removed it. Doctor told me my cough was Lisinopril so I contacted my Cardiologist and he told me to drop my Lisinopril and monitor BP for 10 days. All BP readings are 120/80 or lower.
MY COUGH IS 90% gone after 10 days. It was a horrible cough, unlike anything I ever had before. I have been suffering from constipation for five years. I eat well, get fiber and would often have to use laxatives to be regular. I hope I have no other organ damage since I have been taking it for 8 years! I will give BP data to my cardiologist on Monday

I was on lisinopril for 20 days and nobody knew what was going on with my pancreas. I was having severe pain in my abdominal areas and every time i eat the pain got worse. I was hospitalized the first time for 3 days 2 nights. Then approximately a week later the pain came back and it was worse. My blood pressure went up to 180/120 and they doubled my dosage. That caused my pancreas levels to sky rocket. I was transferred to IU health in Indianapolis and through cultures was told I was allergic to this medication. I had to have a stint put in my pancreas duct and that's only temporarily. I go back end of this month to have it removed and a bigger one put in for 4 weeks. Then hopefully the duct right off the pancreas will not collapse again.

I have been on Lisinopril for high blood pressure for a number of years. I have developed a severe dry cough for the last two years and multiple episodes of laryngitis. Currently I have been without a voice for over five months now.I did recently see an Ear nose and throat Dr. He told me both issues were a direct result of being on Lisinopril, and to get off of the medication immediately! I've been off of it for a week now and still have the cough and laryngitis. Last night I went to the ER because of severe stomach pains. I had multiple scans and I was told that I have an enlarged liver. Do I have a lawsuit???

I took Lisinopril for four years and during the last year, I ended up in the hospital twice for very low hematocrit and hemoglobin levels. I was given several blood transfusions both times. I have been off of this drug four months and my levels are staying at the normal ranges. I also had four liters of blood develop in my abdomen and had to have abdominal surgery to suction it out. That was in December 2014 and to this day, the doctors do not know where it came. Do I have a case?

On May 31, 2014, the second day of taking Lisinopril, my tongue and throat swelled up. I made it to the ER, and ended up in a coma for five days, due to Angioedema. I almost died. I contacted the FDA. This medicine needs to be taken off the market.

On June 17, 2013, my father was pronounced dead by an ER physician who stated that my father had angioedema in his tongue, throat, and upper airway so bad that it cut off his airway and caused him to go into cardiac arrest. She stated that she believed it to be due to the fact that he was taking Lisinopril at the time of his death because she had seen other patients who had experienced the exact same problems my father had while taking Lisinopril.

I am a 44-year-old male and have been taking Lisinopril since I was 23 years of age. I have recently had a severe allergic reaction, which is known as angioedema. I woke up with my upper lip severely swollen, and shortly after my throat felt as though it was about to close up. Luckily my wife insisted that I go to the emergency room because she was concerned about my airway closing up. I later found out that this was a reaction from Lisinopril, which is an ace-inhibitor that treats blood pressure. I had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days as well as miss work. I was terrified how all of a sudden I had a deadly reaction from a medication that I had been taking for years.

I was prescribed this blood pressure medication a little over 3 years ago. My decline in health soon began. I soon was unable to keep my balance and was severely SOB,horrible headaches, this went on and on, I complained to many times to count, and was even told it was due to my weight problem. Which bt the way I gained 45pds due to not being able to swim or walk anymore. So in turn after being put in the hospital for High blood pressure they increased my dose another 10 milligrams. then my legs and feet began to swell and I could not understand it, only to be told it was due to my weight and to much salt intake?? My skin started to dry out and itch all over my body. Due to No health insurance, I was left to suffer. Finally a nurse suggested to the ER doctor that it maybe the HB medicine Lisinopril , only to be told no! Well I woke up last saturday to crushing pain in my chest and stomach, and then my lips and hands began to swell, soon my tongue and throat followed, steroids, pepcid and benadryl, ativan..and I am still battling this..I'm scared and so tired..I pray for a end to this nightmare soon.

I was prescribed Lisinopril 5-6 years ago and developped a bad cough. I went back to the Dr. who prescribed complaining of the cough (hacking and choking to the point where I could not swallow or breathe, couldn't sleep) they gave me some cough medicine I think. I went to an ear nose and throat Dr who checked me out and it seems there was a third Dr I went to. They all collected fees and I of course told them all the meds I was on but no one had a reason for my cough. On a hunch I got on the internet and looked up side effects for Lisinopril and there were people going off like crazy ranting about their horrible cough. I immediately stopped taking it. It took 2-3 weeks before my symptoms subsided. I have run into numerous people since then who had a horrible cough that lasted for weeks. One was a co-worker, one was our music minister, both times I asked them if the were taking any new blood pressure meds their reply "yes" my next question, is it Lisinopril? Both times it was. I can count on both hands the number of people I have run into with the same reaction to it. Every time the DRs couldn't figure out what the problem was. I have this cough that comes and goes and I often wonder if it has anything to do with the Lisinopril. Anyone hear of someone having a permanent cough as a side effect?

After taking 1 Lisinopril pill for the first time ever, my father experienced extreme swelling in his lips and face. In addition, his airways closed and according to the hospital doctors and nurses working on him, he died for 2 min which cut off oxygen to his brain and he now has speech and memory issues.
