Chrysler Facing Class Action over Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) Defect

- by

Detroit, MI: Further to reports of alleged defects with the Chrysler Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) in 2011-2012 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos and Dodge Grand Caravans, a class action lawsuit has been filed, alleging the alleged defective Chrysler TIPMs can cause numerous electrical problems and serious safety risks.

According to the lawsuit, the associated TIPM problems range from difficulty starting the vehicles to stalling to fuel pumps not shutting off. Additionally, the affected vehicles may experience random activation of the built in alarm systems, windshield wipers or horns, headlights going out. The alleged defective TIPMs are so common that the replacement parts are backordered for weeks across the US.

The plaintiffs allege that to date, Chrysler has refused to reimburse impacted affected owners for their rental car costs or the cost of expensive repairs. Further, Chrysler has to date refused to issue a recall for the TIPM, despite being aware that the defective TIPM pose serious safety risks to those who continue to drive the impacted Chrysler vehicles.

So I got a Chrysler 200 2012 in 2013 with only 20000 miles on it since then I've had to unplug my horns replace the actuators in my blend doors because they run constantly even when key is out. I've replaced headlights numerous times and for almost a year it's been stalling on the interstate at intersections you name it. It would start right back up but in the past months has increasingly gotten worse. Everyone kept telling me they dont know what it is unless it does it with them of course it never did. Finally today it happened and it's the tipm I didn't even know about this common problem or lawsuits or anything. Apparently neither does any mechanic dealership or others. Anyway I've spent alot of money over time repair all this crap broken down numerous times etc. Anyway if I can do anything about this let me know

I have a 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan that is having almost every issue known. Luckily the airbags haven't deployed or its caught fire. But this issue has left my family and myself on the side of the road a few times. The van has failed to start, leaving my wife at home and missing work. It has just shut off going down the interstate, we have woke up to a dead battery because the fuel pump ran while vehicle was off. We have been out at a store and come out and the side door or rear door be open on the van, the heat and air control goes crazy and sets the temp to whatever. I have spoke with the dealer we purchased the van from and they will not do anything to help. We are still making payments on the van and sometimes can't even drive it. To my understanding and research, Chrysler has known of this issue for quite some time and honestly I believe the dealership that sold us the van should have already had the issue fixed before being able to sale the vehicle. We are not in a position to fork out $1400 to repair this ourselves and really think we shouldn't have to. Thanks for your time.

I had a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee that would just DIE. Twice replaced the TIPM. Once under warranty and the next time I paid almost $1000. I traded the Jeep and lost my A** to get rid of it.

I certainly would like to recoup some or all of my losses.

I bought a Chrysler 2002015 on 11/23/2016 . I bought it out of Bham al and I have gotten to drive my car a total of 3 days it has been in the shop and it still is. They have replaced the modular three times already and now they are putting a new transmission in it. What happens if it does it again? What do I need to do ? Because I bought it used with milage over 44,000 the lemon law doesn't cover it. That's what I have been told . I was also asked by the dealership to sign paper work three different times

Our 2012 Dodge Durango Crew caught fire and exploded last October 1, 2016. We bought the car here in the Philippines in October 2012. In April 2016, the car underwent regular preventive maintenance. In May 2016, the "engine malfunction" and "electronic throttle control" symbols just appeared from the dash board control panel for no apparent reason. During the same time, while driving, the automatic liftgate opened on its own. Later, the engine just won't start. I brought it to my dealer and they said battery was drained, and was replaced, after diagnosing "electrical". In September, headlights were functioning intermittently. Then in October, while driving in the freeway, I heard a loud pop from beneath. Engine malfunction symbol appeared. Immediately, I pulled over. As I was slowing down, RPM decreased even while stepping on the gas pedal. As soon as I stopped, engaged the park and foot break, electronic throttle control symbol flashed, and smoke came out from the hood near the driver side and wind shield. My passengers, (wife, mom, and my 2 kids) got out quick. When we're about 10 meters away, boom! That was it. the car was gone, completely gutted by fire.

I am having random issues with my alarm going off on my 2010 Dodge Nitro. The problem started in 2014 and has become chronically worse over time. I have had one incident where the car stalled out. The dealer that I took it to indicates that they cannot find the problem to either. I have not yet contacted any agency for resolution, but I'm quite ready to.

My wipers swipe on thier own when switched to the off setting. I have been able to capture the problem on video. I have also submitted a complaint to the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles Lemon Law Division. Chrysler inspected my vehicle and found no faulty parts. The following morning my wipers swiped again for no reason. Chrysler contacted me and offered to pay $1,369, which was the cost of the service contract, but it is contingent on a signed release. I do not want to accept their offer and would like to know what other steps I must follow through with in order for me to have my issue corrected or vehicle replaced.
