On May 5, 2008, lawyers told a Florida Supreme Court that the government and a particular laboratory are not obligated under state law to protect the public from materials that are lethal. This claim comes as a result of a lawsuit filed by the widow of a tabloid photo editor who died of anthrax exposure in 2001.

Family Files Lawsuit in Inmate's Death
A federal inmate died while in the Muscogee County Detention Center and now his family is suing for the wrongful death of their loved one. The lawsuit was filed on March 5, 2008 in federal court on behalf of Charles Leon Weatherford's two surviving children and his estate. The lawsuit names nine jail employees, Sheriff Charles Pearson, and the Muskogee Board of County Commissioners as defendants in the suit. [

NJ College Sued by Parents of Dead Student

Two years ago, the body of a 19-year-old student was found in a Pennsylvania landfill after an intensive four-week search had yielded no results. On March 3, 2008, the parents of that student filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the college for not keeping their trash compacting system secure. No damages have been specified in regards to the death of John Fiocco Jr. who was a freshman at The College of New Jersey located not far outside of Trenton. [
