Wayne County and the Retirement Board

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the county and its retirement board alleging unilateral changes to life insurance premiums are unfair. Wayne County retirees along with the American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) have suit Wayne County and the Retirement Board seeking to challenge the recent increases. AFSCME's retirees have been paying level premiums for retiree insurance for about 40 years. Then, without prior notice, the premiums became age related and now requires the oldest retirees to pay the highest premium. Retirees were guaranteed lifetime life insurance at level rates and these enormous increases are without any justification.
