Wal-Mart to Pay $6.5 Million in Back Pay

The world's largest retailer--Wal-Mart--may be facing a $2 billion pay out as a result of breaking labor laws in Minnesota, specifically wage and hour violations. The state judge has ruled that the retailer broke labor laws more than 2 million times. Consequently, he has ordered the company to pay employees $6.5 million in back-pay. As a result of this decision, Wal-Mart will be back in court in Minnesota, before a jury, to determine the value per violation of wage and hours rules. If there are 2 million violations, at a maximum of $1000 per violation, the settlement could reach $2 billion.
