University of Michigan

The Center for Individual Rights has filed a lawsuit and is seeking class action status against the university for not complying with Proposal 2, an amendment to the state Constitution that prohibits public colleges and other state agencies from operating affirmative action programs that grant preferences based on race, color, ethnicity, national origin, or gender. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a white student who had applied to Michigan's law school and any other student in a similar situation. The US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit gave the University of Michigan's three campuses until December 23, 2006 to comply with the amendment; as of January 4, 2007 the university was still sorting out what the amendment requires.

If you feel you should be included in this possible class action, please contact the [Center for Individual Rights] directly.
