Tropicana Faces Potential Fraud Lawsuit over All Natural OJSan Francisco, CA: A federal consumer fraud class action lawsuit has been filed against the manufacture of Tropicana orange juice alleging that the claims that the beverage is "100% pure and natural" is not the case. The lawsuit, filed by California resident Angelena Lewis, claims that "While Tropicana claims that 'making Tropicana orange juice is truly an art,' it is far more a science." And, "The resulting product does not taste like fresh squeezed orange juice." The lawsuit claims that Tropicana puts the juice through extensive processing, adding aromas and flavors that change its "essential nature" and give it a longer shelf life. Specifically, the suit claims that Tropicana not from concentrate juice is "heavily processed" and adds aroma and flavoring "to provide its processed orange juice an aromatic and flavor profile closer to fresh juice and to mask the effects of processing and storage." The lawsuit is seeking class-action status on behalf of all U.S. purchasers of the juice, a halt to the alleged deception and compensatory, punitive and triple damages.
