Starbucks Facing Overtime Class Action in Florida

A lawsuit filed by a Starbucks manager in Florida, alleging unpaid overtime, was granted conditional class-action status on April 27th.

The suit alleges that Starbucks has violated federal law by not paying overtime, and seeks to represent anyone who worked for the company as store managers between January 15, 2006 and the present.

There is some urgency to the suit as the plaintiffs' attorneys only have until May 11 to provide the court with the names and addresses of any potential plaintiffs.

This is not the first labor suit Starbucks has faced. In 2008 they were ordered to pay baristas in California $100 million in unpaid tips and interest. Also in California last year, they were ordered to pay a $3 million settlement as reimbursement for unpaid mileage and expenses incurred by employees. And in Houston, in 2008, 350 managers won their suit against the company, having proven that they were forced to work additional hours without compensation.
