Ralphs Grocery Company has been accused of failing to disclose important terms and conditions to its customers participating in a promotion in California between June 4 and July 15, 2003, called "The Great Escape." The lawsuit alleges that Ralphs advertised that its Club Card customers who spent $400 on groceries during that period of time would receive a certificate good for a free two-night hotel stay in one of 38 cities, but did not advertise terms and conditions that severely restricted the use of the certificate. Some consumers allegedly did not obtain a certificate at all. Others allegedly obtained a certificate but found it contained terms and conditions that so severely restricted their ability to obtain a free two-night hotel stay that they decided not to attempt to redeem it.
