Personal Information Search and Database Companies under Class Action Investigation

San Francisco, CA: A potential unfair business practices class action lawsuit has been filed against companies that acquire and then sell people's personal information, onto anyone with the capability to purchase the information. Examples of these types of companies would include Spokeo, Intelius, Peoplesmart, People Finders and US Search. This practice is highly offensive and an invasion of privacy.

Types of personal information that may be sold could include names, ages, addresses past and present, phone numbers, employment information, income, email addresses, spousal information, hobbies, pictures, maiden names, aliases, names of relatives, neighbors and associates.

Once sold, the information acquired by these people search companies or information brokers can be difficult to correct or completely remove from the internet or whereever it may be housed. The lawsuit seeks to investigate people's complaints to establish whether or not the practices of the information search companies violate California law.
