Palm Beach County School Board

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the school board for allegedly failing to provide students with high quality education guaranteed under the Florida state constitution. The lawsuit was filed in Palm Beach County Circuit Court and claims the Palm Beach County School Board's low high school graduation rates demonstrate a violation of students' constitutional rights to high quality education.

Although differing methods of figuring graduation rates results in different percentages, the graduation rates in Palm Beach County are evidence of an inadequate school system. The class action was filed by the American Civil Liberties Union on behalf of students and parents and claims that at least one in three students does not graduate on time, worse than state and national averages.

The Palm Beach County School District is the eleventh largest in the country and the fifth largest in the state. It has about 168,000 students in 185 schools, including 23 high schools.
