Stanley Medical Research Institute

A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the institution for allegedly failing to obtain informed consent for organ donations. Between 1999 and 2003, approximately one hundred deceased residents from Maine had their brains removed and donated to the research institute in Maryland. In a time of grief, family members thought they were giving consent to tissue samples, not the removal of their loved ones entire brain.
