OnStar

A lawsuit has been filed and is seeking class action status against the roadside assistance operator after deciding to switch its analog systems to digital. The lawsuit was filed in Bucks County Court and claims 10% of vehicles with the old OnStar systems will not be provided with digital network upgrades. The lawsuit was filed on behalf of 1996-2003 GM model vehicle owners where digital capable upgrade kits were not created.

OnStar offers a variety of services depending on the level of subscription. They include hands-free telephone calls, vehicle diagnostics, remote door unlocking, roadside assistance, directions and automatic notification of emergency responders after a crash. OnStar notes that a 2006 Federal Communications Commission decision allows mobile phone companies to turn off their analog transmission systems in early 2008.
