Naked Juice, PepsiCo Face False Adversting Class Action

San Francisco, CA: Naked Juice, and parent company PepsiCo, are facing a potential consumer fraud class action lawsuit over allegations that the ingredients used in its line of juice and smoothie products are not all natural, as claimed. PepsiCo bought Naked in 2007.

Specifically, the class action, filed in federal court in California, alleges that claims made by Naked Juice, of “100 percent Juice”, “100 percent fruit” and “All Natural” are misleading to the public, given the use of “synthetic ingredients… and chemical compounds that are not the vitamins they were claimed to be.”

The lawsuit also claims that the drinks include additives such as calcium pantothenate, Fibersol-2 and inulin, which are added to provide properties that consumers associate with actual fruit, such as a pulpy, fibrous mouth-feel.

Further, the suit alleges that the drinks may contain genetically modified soy products, which would not be "all natural." According to the lawsuit, “almost all soy products are now genetically modified.”
