Mazda Recalls 12,300 CX-9 Cross Over SUVs

Washington, DC: Mazda is recalling 12,300 model year 2010 CX-9 cross-over SUVs equipped with electrically heated front seats, because there is a possibility under extremely cold conditions, for the seat heater control circuit to overheat and fail due to insufficient electrical grounding.

This could result in burn damage of the seat cushion surface, or a risk of smoke/fire.

The defect came to Mazda's attention following a report by a dealer that a CX-9 seat heater could not be turned off even after the ignition key was turned all the way to the off position. This resulted in a scorched seat and a drained battery.

Mazda will reportedly be contacting affected owners by mail.
