A class action lawsuit has been filed against the state of Alaska in regards to the ending of the Longevity Bonus Program. The suit was filed on behalf of anyone who had been eligible for the bonuses, which were cut off when Gov. Frank Murkowski vetoed the $44 million dollars to be used for the checks, ending the program. The plaintiffs allege that the state promised to pay them according to the Longevity Bonus Program which was established in 1972 to help residents who had lived in the state for at least 25 years, and who were 65 and older to remain in the state.
