Scott Whitaker was in a serious car accident but Lee Memorial refused to bill his health insurance company for the $50,000 3 day hospitalization. Whitaker turned around and sued the Health System, alleging violation of patient civil rights, unequal protection, and violation of due process. His lawyer is seeking class action status. Whitaker pays health insurance premiums to Blue Cross Shield, but a $37,000 lien was placed on his policies. (Feb-26-05)
