The suit claims that only half as many patients with the Kaiser kidney program received kidneys compared to other programs in California. Patients complained about botched paperwork, chaotic management and long delays for transplants.According to the lawsuit brought by former administrative head of the kidney transplant unit, Kaiser's kidney transplant program "was so poorly organized and unprofessionally managed that it failed to comply with state and federal requirements and compromised patient care, leading to unnecessary suffering and possibly deaths." Kaiser Permanente's kidney transplant center in San Francisco allegedly did not meet quality standards and could lose federal funding if it does not improve its program.
