Glenville Board of Education

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Glenville Board of Education alleging the school's building conditions violate the state constitution by failing to provide suitable and substantially equal educational opportunities to Glenville students. The lawsuit was filed in Stamford Superior Court and names the Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools Betty Sternberg, and First Selectman James Lash as defendants. It claims the Board of Education is failing to provide equal educational opportunities in that the availability and quality of the school environment for students of Glenville School varies significantly from all other schools throughout Greenwich.

Glenville School, built in the 1970s, has been cited for its lack of natural light, open space floor design, heating and cooling issues, leaky roof and other problems.

Glenville School was supposed to begin its renovation this school year and move into the district's temporary classrooms. But construction delays at Hamilton Avenue School, which currently occupy the temporary classrooms, have pushed back Glenville's renovation, which may not start until the fall of 2008. Sternberg told the school PTA in June 2007 that the worst case scenario would have Glenville School moving to temporary classrooms no later than January 2008.
