Chesapeake Appalachia

A federal class action lawsuit has been filed against the company seeking royalties for leasing and drilling natural gas wells in Pike, Floyd, Knott, and Martin counties. The lawsuit was filed in US District Court and claims Chesapeake breached contracts by using a different payment method for royalties than originally agreed upon in negotiated lease agreements. The case also alleges Chesapeake engaged in common law fraud through concealed, suppressed or omitted information reported to area residents who entered natural gas leases.
