Ford Motor Corp.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Ford Motor Company, Ford Motor Company of Canada, Ltd., Magna Donnelly Corporation, Intier Automotive Seating of America Inc. and Intier Automotive Closures of America. The class claims the companies are responsible for designing, manufacturing, installing, supplying, selling and distributing outside door handles systems that do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 206, Canadian Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard 206 or even Ford's internal standards.

Oct-11-06 Recall
Ford Motor Co. has announced a voluntary safety recall of 145,000 vehicles to repair defective door latches. The vehicles included in the recall are the 2005-2006 Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, Ford Freestyle and 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid vehicles. Ford officials said the front and rear side door latch mechanisms may experience water intrusion that may wash out grease applied during the manufacturing process. This condition may allow the latch mechanism to freeze during temperatures significantly below freezing in combination with a wet environment. As a result, the door latch pawl may not return to the latched position when the door is closed.
