A class action lawsuit filed in Columbia alleges that former oncologist James Hueser and 22 physicians knowingly shortchanged patients by giving diluted or tainted chemotherapy drugs and charging full price. The suit alleges fraud, breach of contract and civil conspiracy. In 2001, nurses reported chemotherapy drugs had been opened and stored for later use, which is contrary to the drug guidelines. Hueser was recently charged with Medicare billing fraud and gave up his medical license.
