Capital Area Transit System

A class action lawsuit has been filed against the Baton Rouge bus system alleging the unreliability of the paratransit is illegal. The lawsuit was filed by the New Orleans-based Advocacy Center in Baton Rouge federal court against Capital Area Transit System, known as CATS On Demand. It claims disabled persons cannot rely on the system as it is often more than 10 minutes early or more than 20 minutes late.

The lawsuit alleges CATS is failing to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act, which require transportation agencies to provide paratransit service that is comparable to regular fixed-route service.
