I almost died from pancreatitis.
I spent almost a week in the hopital after being very ill for over a month. I had to pay all medical bills myself since I had no insurance. I had doctor, hospital and ambulance bills. I still have problems with my kidneys and am currently seeing a nephrologist.

Byetta Accute Pancreatitis

Byetta pancreatitis Amylin Pharmaceuticals, Inc., the manufacturer of Byetta, has agreed with the FDA to add stronger and more prominent warnings in the product label about the risk of acute hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis.

In October 2007, the FDA issued an alert to health professionals stating it had reviewed 30 postmarketing reports of acute pancreatitis-- a condition which can be fatal-- in patients taking Byetta.

Byetta is a drug injected twice a day, and assists type 2 diabetes patients to lower their blood sugar.

Healthcare professionals are advising patients taking Byetta to seek prompt medical care if they experience unexplained, persistent, severe abdominal pain, which may or may not be accompanied by vomiting. On its website, the FDA warns patients to discontinue Byetta and other potentially suspect drugs if pancreatitis is suspected. There are no signs or symptoms that distinguish acute hemorrhagic or necrotizing pancreatitis associated with Byetta from the less severe form of pancreatitis.
