Amazon Faces Class Action over Book Deletions

Last week, Amazon reached into their customers' Kindles to delete copies of George Orwell's 1984 and Big Brother. Amazon did reimburse their customers for the purchase price.

Amazon seized the books because it discovered that the company it had purchased the books from did not have the rights to Orwell's two modern classics.

A class action is pending for all Kindle owners who had their copies of the book retrieved by Amazon, alleging trespass. The complaint will also argue that Amazon deleting books in this way reduces the value of the Kindle, as people who purchased the digital book readers believe that they are purchasing a device on which they can store books forever.
